  • Safer 65 resolutions ask the state for action

    ISSUE: Improvements to Interstate 65
    OUR VIEW:
    Public should push the idea

From three county courthouses, judge-executives are calling for action to address Interstate 65 improvements as an urgent matter of public safety.

Visitors, guests and passers-by decry the discomfort and potential hazard of being squeezed from six driving lanes to four along the 38-mile stretch from Park City to Elizabethtown.

    Questionable ayes for eyes
I have not heard of anyone who agrees with the passing of Senate Bill 110, which permits optometrists to perform eye surgery. Apparently they will not be permitted to perform cataract surgery, but who decides? Patients had better decide or we may be “blind” sided in more ways than one.

  • Here's hoping Project PASS results in educational TDs

Radcliff is in the national spotlight today.

Some major players are visiting North Middle School off Ky. 313 to kickoff Project PASS, which is designed to improve the success of students and increase high school graduation rates. Those are two vital goals toward improving individual lives plus Kentucky and the nation as a whole.

  • Rik Hawkins: Short tenure, big accomplishments

    TOPIC: Rik Hawkins
OUR VIEW: A job well done

If Rik Hawkins had a checklist of things he helped the Elizabethtown-Hardin County Chamber of Commerce and other chambers around the county accomplish during his 14-month stint as the organization’s executive director, it would be full.

Hawkins led the way for significant progress with the chamber of commerce arena in Hardin County and played a key role in many of the superb events we have seen here.

Like Cruisin’ the Heartland in downtown Elizabethtown.

  • Rescued from a grain bin

Cecilia farmer Pat Owsley came face to face with a farming danger Thursday. It brought him within seconds of a suffocating death in his own grain bin and he credits God for circumstances that led to an amazing rescue.

He was checking corn in the top of a bin when suddenly he found himself being pulled down in the corn like quicksand.

    Seeing, hearing, doing
I am writing to express my dislike of the language that is used at my school. I do not go a day without hearing at least three people use vulgar or inappropriate language. I do not believe middle school students need to be using curse words and having constant sexual related conversations every day. There are plenty of other ways you can express your feelings that do not involve use of dirty language.
Also some subjects are not school appropriate and should not be discussed.
