PREP SOFTBALL: Central Hardin...

After a rare winless weekend, the 15th-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins needed a game to bounce back before tonight’s huge 17th District showdown against the North Hardin Trojans.

Although it wasn’t a very long game – albeit the first inning, at least the top of it, was – the Lady Bruins got their groove back Tuesday on the road against the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs.

Junior April Pence homered and senior Jordan Lasley went 4-for-4 with a pair of extra-base hits as the Lady Bruins rolled to a 16-0 mercy-rule win in three innings.

PREP BASEBALL: Meade's...

Meade County senior Jake Wilson grew up knowing what he wanted to do after high school. He wanted to play Division I baseball.

Wilson fulfilled a lifelong dream Wednesday afternoon as he signed a national letter of intent to play next season at Eastern Kentucky. Although he was the starting quarterback for football, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Wilson had his sights set on baseball the entire time.

LEXINGTON — All three area doubles teams knew they had their work cut out for them in going up against seeded opponents in the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament.

When you add in a withdrawal, a third-set loss and a busted racket, area singles players didn’t have much luck either.

Dante Johnson and Bryce Meers want to help North Hardin make history by becoming the first school to win both the boys’ and girls’ team titles at the KHSAA State Track & Field Championships.

And if all goes according to plan for the dynamic duo, they’ll get the day started off with a bang in Saturday’s Class 3-A state meet at the University of Louisville’s Owsley Frazier Cardinal Park.

PREP ROUNDUP: Panthers rout...

Sophomore Zeke Pinkham hit two home runs and drove in eight runs to lead Elizabethtown to a 15-3 victory over visiting Taylor County on Thursday.

Pinkham continued his torrid spring with a grand slam and a three-run blast in the five-inning triumph, helping the Panthers (23-9) win their third straight.

Seniors Garrett Morgan and Cannon Pender and freshman Hunter Sullivan had three hits apiece to spearhead a 14-hit attack. Morgan and sophomore Cody Bridges each scored four runs.

Sullivan earned the win on the mound to improve his record to 7-2.

PREP BASEBALL: Bruins shooting...

The Central Hardin Bruins are in a situation they've seen several times the last few years. The Bruins go into the postseason with a huge target on their backs.

The Bruins went undefeated in the 17th District regular season for a third consecutive year. They have won 35 consecutive games against district teams with their last loss coming to Elizabethtown on April 20, 2010.

PREP TENNIS: Seeds moving on at...

Tyler Edlin had to overcome several obstacles Tuesday.

For one, the top-seeded John Hardin junior trailed in the first set, just the second time he’s been behind in a set all season.

But equally challenging was staying loose after his opponent, seventh-seeded Marion County senior Jacob Burdette, needed to take a medical break during the second set.

Burdette recently hurt his back and required medical attention between games until he finally needed to take an extanded break to deal with the pain.
