E'town man pleads guilty to...

An Elizabethtown man arrested a year ago on allegations of sexual abuse pleaded guilty Tuesday in Hardin Circuit Court to amended charges.

Charlie A. Runyon, 45, originally was indicted in September on charges of first-degree sodomy and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.

According to the indictment, the charges involve three alleged victims, one of whom was a juvenile male at the time of the incident.

ECTC student overcomes past...

When Mary Langley began her third semester of college, she had a 4.0 grade point average and appeared ready for another successful round of classes.

But then she stopped attending. Without officially withdrawing from any of her classes, she failed them all and her GPA plummeted to a 1.7.

“I just kind of fell off the face of the earth,” she said.

The Cecilian Bank purchases...

The Cecilian Bank is making plans to move this fall into downtown Elizabethtown.

The local company purchased the building at 227 W. Dixie Ave., which was vacated in March by PNC Bank, for $901,250, said Greg Pawley, president and chief executive officer.

At this time, Pawley said The Cecilian Bank does not intend to open a banking center in the 20,000-square-foot space. Instead, he said the building will be used as an operations center for customer support and e-banking departments, which have grown in recent years as the bank expanded.

Former J.T. Alton teacher...

A former J.T. Alton Middle School teacher was indicted on 30 charges this week stemming from allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Anthony Durrant, 46, of Rineyville, was indicted on 14 counts of a use of a minor in a sexual performance, five counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, eight counts of unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities, one count of sexual abuse and one count of tampering with physical evidence, according to the indictment.

Truck overturns, blocking WK...

Eastbound traffic on the Western Kentucky Parkway is blocked today because of an overturned tractor trailer.

The female driver was injured and needed assistance to get out of the vehicle, which is owned by Summitt Trucking. She was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital by Hardin County EMS.

The single-vehicle crash occurred just before 1 p.m. on an overpass above Valley Creek on the west side of Elizabethtown near mile marker 134.

WKU Radcliff center to close

Western Kentucky University programs in Radcliff are moving to other parts of the county.

WKU’s center in Radcliff, part of the Elizabethtown-Radcliff-Fort Knox campus, is planned to close as part of budget reductions being made across the university’s programs. The reductions are part of the fiscal year 2013-14 budget, which is expected to be approved by WKU’s Board of Regents in June.

Former teacher pleads not guilty...

A former J.T. Alton Middle School teacher facing 30 felony charges remains behind bars in lieu of a $100,000 cash after a Hardin Circuit Court judge denied a motion to reduce bond.

Anthony D. Durrant, 46, of Rineyville, pleaded not guilty Tuesday afternoon to allegations he exchanged sexually explicit text messages and photographs with a female student who is younger than 16 years old.

Deputy commander to receive...

The deputy commander of Fort Knox and Cadet Command will be promoted to brigadier general Tuesday afternoon.

A ceremony for Col. Erik Peterson is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cadet Park on Brooks Field in front of Cadet Command headquarters.

The public is invited to attend.

Educator comes full circle

When Vine Grove Elementary School interim assistant principal Kerry Reeves walked the halls of Clarkson Elementary School in Grayson County in the late ’60s and early ’70s, it was as a student.

When he walked them in 1979, it was as a custodian.

When he walks them this fall, it will be as principal.

“I truly am going back home,” Reeves, 51, said.

He will work with teachers who were students at the elementary school when he was custodian.
