Supporting Garrison

In light of Monday’s article concerning the appointing of Mr. Alvin Garrison to the position of superintendent of Covington Independent Schools, I wish to thank Mr. Garrison for his many years of service to Hardin County Schools.

Misdemeanors

The following misdemeanor cases are found in Hardin District Court Division I in Elizabethtown. KAPS stands for Kentucky Alternative Programs. Totals include court costs and/or public advocacy fees. Birth year is in parenthesis.

Kendall Parnell (1968). Alcohol intoxication in a public place. Total $235.

Timothy D. Yates (1965). Criminal mischief; escape. Twelve months in jail, serve two months balance probated for two years on conditions in the order. Total $180.

Two found dead after I-65 crash

After clearing the scene of a single-vehicle crash Thursday that killed an elderly Tennessee woman on Interstate 65, firefighters found the body of her passenger more than 970 feet south of the crash.

The man had left the vehicle and walked the edge of a creek bed where the Toyota sedan had fallen.

Norman Chaffins, spokesman for Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown, said the woman was southbound on I-65 when her car suddenly left the roadway near mile marker 98 and struck a tree, spinning around and landing in a creek tucked below the highway.

Artifact show is Saturday in E’...

The Green River Archaeological Society’s annual artifact show offers a visual history lesson.

Displays featuring collections of prehistoric Native American artifacts are open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. The event is free and food and refreshments will be served.

The organization is one of 21 state societies that make up the Central States Archaeological Society. Collectors from as far away as Georgia, Illinois and Tennessee are showing their collections Saturday, show host Don Reynolds said.

Last season’s historic run in the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament was an eye-opening experience for the Meade County Green Wave.

Now they have their sights set on an encore performance.

“I think that opened all our eyes,” Meade County senior Jake Wilson said. “We’ve been saying we can do this and that, but what we accomplished last year made us realize those things are possible.”

Congress needs to investigate IRS

On May 10, America learned the IRS – perhaps the most frightening of all government agencies – has been singling out and targeting conservative groups, including tea party groups. The IRS has waged a three-year war against the tea party, harassing our groups and even auditing our individual members. This abuse of power is unacceptable and unconstitutional, and it must stop.
