The national Office of Drug Control Policy is making a local impact. Grants totaling $300,000 are to be distributed over three years to agencies in seven regions of Kentucky to combat substance abuse in those ages 12 to 25.

Locally, that means Communicare is administering money to be used by local law enforcement agencies to keep unused prescription drugs out of the wrong hands and out of water supplies.

Sanders – Seng

David and Mona Sanders of Upton announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Shana L. Sanders, to Cody J. Seng, son of Tim and Paula Seng of Upton.

The bride-to-be is a 2012 graduate of Morehead State University with a master’s degree in business administration. She is employed by Sands Construction Company LLC.

The prospective groom is employed by Bob Swope Ford.

The wedding is May 16, 2013, at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

The Tomodachi Coca-Cola Homestay program returns to the city from July 26 to Aug. 6 and supports Japan’s recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake by building cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

Hail covers areas in LaRue County

The ground in some areas in LaRue County was white from the amount of hail that fell Sunday afternoon, said Troy Williams with the LaRue County Sheriff’s Department.

At times, the hail reached golf-ball size, Williams said. The county hadn’t sustained any damage as of early Sunday evening, he said.
