We finally got about an inch of much needed rain last Sunday night; the ground has been cracking from the dry weather in this area. Even though it has been dry, we still are thankful we haven’t had any of the terrible storms prevalent in many areas. Such a tragedy.

Shelby McWhirter crowned Preteen...

Shelby McWhirter, 13-year-old daughter of Dana Mosley of Elizabethtown and Michael McWhirter Sr. of Killeen, Texas, competed in the local preliminary Sister Cities- Queen of the Commonwealth beauty pageant June 2 at Pritchard Community Center, where she was crowned Preteen Grand Supreme. She will move on to compete at the state Pageant in October, where she will compete for the title of Queen of the Commonwealth Preteen Grand Supreme. Shelby is an incoming eighth-grader at Bluegrass Middle School, where she also is a cheerleader.

Phillip and Julie Bewley of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Paige Bewley of Elizabethtown, to Austin Wethington of Elizabethtown, the son of Robert Wethington of Elizabethtown and Scott and Teresa Helm of Syracuse, N.Y.

The wedding is at 5 p.m. June 22, 2013, at Valley Creek Baptist Church with a reception to follow.

Parents welcome Evan Ray Clare

Becky Logsdon and Joshua Clare of Hodgenville announce the birth of a son, Evan Ray Clare, on May 13, 2013, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 inches long.

He has a brother, Colin Reynolds.

Maternal grandparents are Lisa and Danny Logsdon of Upton and paternal grandparents are William and Theresa Clare of Sonora.

Great-grandparents are Edna Dennison and Irene Priddy.

An impactful man and a humble servant. That is how I will forever remember Tim Walker, the great mayor of Elizabethtown.

He was a true friend of the military. In fact, hardly a week would go by without me seeing him because of his committed interest in strengthening partnerships between the Elizabethtown and Fort Knox communities.

Greg Mayfield of Hodgenville and Melanie and Ronnie Read of Magnolia announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Hannah Renee Mayfield of Bowling Green, to John Matthew Stevenson of Bowling Green, son of Michelle and Leo Stevenson of Bee Spring.

The bride-to-be is a 2011 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She is employed at the Medical Center in Bowling Green and has been accepted into the nurse practitioner program at WKU.

VFW and Ladies Auxiliary support...

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10281 and Ladies Auxiliary recently joined other community organizations in supporting “Rachel’s Project.”

Rachel Ritchie, a 9-year-old Vine Grove resident, made a presentation to Vine Grove City Council members in February to get an ADA-accessible playground so all children could play together without some physical differences being so easily noticed.
