Gaeschkes celebrate 50th...

Anthony John Gaeschke and Veronica Choon-ja Kwan Gaeschke of Cincinnati, formerly of Radcliff, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at 11:30 a.m. May 12, 2013, at Camp Carlson Campgrounds.

They were married in 1963 in Seoul, Korea.

Mr. Gaeschke is a longtime member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1980 and worked for civil service from 1981 to 2010, where he retired in 2010.

Mrs. Gaeschke also is a longtime member of St. Christopher Catholic Church and was employed at Fort Knox for many years.

Schmidt Family Foundation...

On May 2, Jan Schmidt, representing the Schmidt Family Foundation, presented a substantial check to Greenspace Inc., Elizabethtown’s non-profit organization that builds and maintains the Greenbelt system of hiking and biking trails throughout the city. Schmidt and her late husband, Bill, have long been strong supporters of Greenspace. Accepting the check for Greenspace were Treasurer Ed Sprague and Board Member Joan Noel.

When I go into the grocery, I can’t move too quickly anymore, but when I see the younger ladies, I see them practically running with their carts to get the items needed as quickly as possible.

Living Faith lends a hand to...

Members of Living Faith Baptist Fellowship in Elizabethtown recently visited Tammy Simpson’s second-grade class at Owsley County Elementary School. They brought a bag of books for summer reading for each of the 22 students in the class, as well as other items for the children’s summer enjoyment.

Happy Mother’s Day. I hope everyone enjoys the day, either being a mother or celebrating one.
   The April rain seems to have come a month late. I guess it is still good for the gardens. It makes it very muddy for planting.

Hardin District Judge Shumate...

Hardin District Judge Kimberly Winkenhofer Shumate was a special guest of DAV Chapter No. 003 at its March meeting at Pritchard Community Center. Shumate addressed members and described the new Veterans Court that soon will be piloted in Hardin County. She advised Jefferson County was selected to serve as the urban model while Hardin County was selected for the rural model of the first Veterans Courts in Kentucky.
