The stork was kept busy last week, delivering a sweet little girl to Elizabethtown on May 8 to the College Heights United Methodist Church Youth Minister Joe and Andrea Bennett. Sydney was welcomed home by her 2-year-old brother, William.

On May 9, he took a precious little boy to Bowling Green to my grandson, Brock and Ashley Barnes. Blake was welcomed home by his big brother, 3-year-old Brody.

Congratulations to both families and wishing them the best in all things.

Bus crash anniversary coverage...

A second-hand bus struck by a drunken driver burst into flames against the night sky. It's been 25 years since 27 people died on the curvy stretch of Interstate 71 in Carroll County. Most of the 40 other children on board required hospital care. Some still carry obvious scars from the fiery crash and all deal with some form of emotional scar.

Hardin County Fair pageant...

Registrations for this year’s Hardin County Fair Pageants are from 6 to 7 p.m. May 28, at the Hardin County Fairgrounds.

Contestants must reside in Hardin County and will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate at time of registration. The pageants are July 8 through 13 during the fair.

Cook – Buckman

Adrienne Denea Cook and William Thomas Buckman III, both of Elizabethtown, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Martin and Mary Cook of Elizabethtown. She is a full-time student at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.

The prospective groom is the son of William and Mechelle Buckman of Waverly. He is employed at Altec.

The wedding is at 6 p.m. May 25, 2013, at Camp Carlson with a reception to follow.

Hello friends. I have enjoyed the weather this week. It’s been warm with a little rain, but we need it for the gardens and the flowers. You know the old saying, “April showers bring May flowers.”

APPRECIATION. Michell Grimes appreciates everyone who came out to the old school building to share in his birthday celebration.

Peterson promoted to brigadier...

 

PETERSON. Col. Erik C. Peterson, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Cadet Command and Fort Knox, became Brig. Gen. Erik C. Peterson in a ceremony on historic Brooks Field on May 15.

An Army Aviation officer, Peterson, received his master of science in geography and cartography from the University of Idaho in 1986. He received his commission through the University of Idaho’s Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program.
