Jim Weise is trying to help a friend in need: the Hardin County Public Library.

“If we’re not friends of the library, our libraries are going to suffer,” he said.

Weise, a retired lawyer and member of the Elizabethtown Lions Club, is among a group contacted by library director Rene Hutcheson to look for input on ways to improve the library system.

Weise remembered being part of a friends of the library group years ago.

California did not work out well for Tim Jarvis.

His sophomore year of high school resulted in only two credits to carry forward into the next year. He felt the teachers did not really care whether he succeeded, he said. With a significant amount of gang activity in the school, teachers were frightened of the students. And when he would see blood splattered across the walls of the bathrooms, he was frightened, too.

“I kind of shut down,” he said. “I just lost hope.”

If you are the friend or family member in the group who is considered the chef or hostess, the pressure is on when people stop by for a visit. You want to offer a snack but if you haven’t planned for it, supplies might be limited.

Or maybe you’re this person. You sit down to your favorite television show and suddenly have the desire to snack on something but there’s nothing in the cupboard.

Sometimes you need a quick appetizer for unexpected guests or a sudden case of the munchies.

The Meade County Green Wave did what many teams haven’t been able to do this season against Central Hardin senior Drew Harrington: score.

Although they only had three hits, the Green Wave took advantage of two errors in the top of the eighth inning to upset the top-ranked Bruins, 3-1 on Tuesday at Central Park.

“I talked to them early on that we were going to have bad at-bats,” Meade County coach Todd Clanton said. “But we can’t get down. We have to keep grinding it at the plate and good things will happen.”
