Online end-of-course testing...

Local school districts will be shelving computers and breaking out No. 2 pencils next week as online end-of-course testing at high schools in Kentucky has been suspended because of system issues with ACT, the testing vendor.

Issues arose last week as schools began administering the tests, with about 25 districts encountering slow and dropped connections while testing online.

Testing to begin this month for...

The work of students and teachers will be put to the test later this month as annual state assessments begin.

Testing now is conducted in the last 14 days of the school year. This is the second year the state has used the K-PREP system, and while this has meant significant changes for teachers and administrators, there have been some changes for students, too.

Along with the change in the testing window, the format of the test is slightly different than past assessments.

Tea to encourage strong mother-...

A Radcliff church is encouraging good relationships between mothers and daughters this weekend with a new event.

The All Nations Worship Ministries Daughters of Destiny is hosting its first mother-daughter tea from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Colvin Community Center on Freedom Way in Radcliff.

The cost is $15 for each set of mothers and daughters and $2.50 for each additional person, which covers a luncheon.

Hooray for Heroes is Saturday

With much of Hardin County turning out to honor soldiers, organizers of Hooray for Heroes have added shuttle service to accommodate crowds in Radcliff.

The eighth annual Hooray for Heroes celebration is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday next to Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff. An evening segment with a USO theme will honor World War II veterans. It is scheduled from 7 to 8:45 p.m. in the church auditorium.

Crews finish repairs to Valley...

Eastbound traffic at mile-marker 132 of Western Kentucky Parkway near Elizabethtown was reduced to one lane Wednesday while crews continued to repair railings sheared off a bridge during a semi wreck Tuesday.

Orange barrels lined the bridge over Valley Creek as crews with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet replaced guard and side rails on the overpass, according to the cabinet’s District 4 office in Elizabethtown. The repairs were expected to be finished Wednesday.

ECA welcomes Buddy Greene

Buddy Greene performs in concert at 7 p.m. today at Elizabethtown Christian Academy.

Greene, a singer-songwriter and guitarist, has a country, bluegrass, folk, gospel and blues style. He also plays harmonica.

Master gardeners host plant fair...

The Lincoln Trail Master Gardener Association hosts its 15th annual plant fair Saturday at the Hardin County Extension Service on Peterson Drive.

This year’s fair features 38 vendors, which is the most it has ever lined up, said Pat Stillwell, one of the event’s organizers.

The “Rain or Shine Plant Fair” runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 201 Peterson Drive across the street from Hardin County Farmer’s Market.

Carrollton: One night, one...

CARROLLTON — You can find many of the characteristics of Carrollton in most towns across Kentucky and around the country.

Off Interstate 71 at exit 44, motorists are greeted by Taco Bell, Burger King and McDonald’s restaurants. Drive downtown along U.S. 227 and you pass a Subway, a few banks, the Family Worship Center and a Wal-Mart.

Along the streets near the Ohio River, you can find a few residents on their front porches on a spring day and a man mowing his lawn after a few days of rain.

If a Kentucky resident was found driving under the influence on intoxicants in 1988, there was no mandatory jail time or alcohol and drug education. According to officials, license suspension was significantly reduced or waived if an offender sought treatment.

Locally, one out of five motorists who were presumed to be under the influence of alcohol in 1988 received lesser charges than a DUI, according to The News-Enterprise archives.
