Police: Radcliff man arrested after fight with brother

A Radcliff man faces a felony assault charge after police say he seriously injured his brother Wednesday night during a domestic altercation at a Kenilworth Court apartment.

Kori D. Hurt, 26, was arrested on charges of second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and second-degree cruelty to animals.

Man struck, killed by train

A fatal collision Wednesday night left papers bearing the names of Harold Haire’s friends and family scattered across railroad tracks near Cox Lane in Elizabethtown.

It was through those papers that Hardin County Coroner Dr. Bill Lee said he was able to identify the Elizabethtown man’s next of kin.

Haire, 53, was struck by a CSX train after 11 p.m. Wednesday, according to officials. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Radcliff rejects stormwater increase

As some officials consider possible reforms and reductions to the stormwater rate in Radcliff, the first step was taken as city council accepted a recommendation from Mayor J.J. Duvall to reject the cost-of-living adjustment for the year.

Duvall said the city saw a 7 to 8 percent reduction in its stormwater expenses through cost-cutting measures and successfully carried out hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stormwater projects in the last few years. He projected this year’s capital improvements for stormwater would exceed $270,000.

April Pence and Amber Hiller are in the same year in grade, but the Central Hardin juniors are worlds apart when it comes to on-field playing time. Pence has been a standout pitcher since middle school, while Hiller began the season on the bench before earning a starting role in left field.

Despite their huge disparity in experience, both players were able to come through in the clutch in Wednesday night’s rain-delayed 17th District Softball Tournament championship at Elizabethtown.

Two found dead after I-65 crash

After clearing the scene of a single-vehicle crash Thursday that killed an elderly Tennessee woman on Interstate 65, firefighters found the body of her passenger more than 970 feet south of the crash.

The man had left the vehicle and walked the edge of a creek bed where the Toyota sedan had fallen.

Norman Chaffins, spokesman for Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown, said the woman was southbound on I-65 when her car suddenly left the roadway near mile marker 98 and struck a tree, spinning around and landing in a creek tucked below the highway.

'Gatsby' adaptation less than great

“Romeo + Juliet” director Baz Luhrmann puts the pages of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel on screen for the summer movie season in “The Great Gatsby.”

While I’m always a fan of literature in film, “Gatsby” is not the happiest of stories. It’s not what you would call an entertaining time at the movies. Instead, it expresses the central theme that money and decadence can’t make someone happy or make dreams come true.

Artifact show is Saturday in E’town

The Green River Archaeological Society’s annual artifact show offers a visual history lesson.

Displays featuring collections of prehistoric Native American artifacts are open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. The event is free and food and refreshments will be served.

The organization is one of 21 state societies that make up the Central States Archaeological Society. Collectors from as far away as Georgia, Illinois and Tennessee are showing their collections Saturday, show host Don Reynolds said.

On May 10, America learned the IRS – perhaps the most frightening of all government agencies – has been singling out and targeting conservative groups, including tea party groups. The IRS has waged a three-year war against the tea party, harassing our groups and even auditing our individual members. This abuse of power is unacceptable and unconstitutional, and it must stop.
