Zonta officers elected at April meeting

Officers for the 2013-14 year were elected at the April meeting of the Zonta Club of Elizabethtown. Officers include President Ruth Ellen Stanley, seated, the club’s only charter member; and from left, Secretary Sue Story, Second Vice President Gail Crain, Treasurer Crystal Tilton and Director Lois Pierce. Not pictured are First Vice President Julia Workman and Director Ramona Jeffries. The new officers will meet soon to plan for the upcoming year to continue projects to improve the status of women.

Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown members gather for May meeting

The General Federation of Woman’s Club of Elizabethtown met May 3 at the Brown-Pusey House in Elizabethtown. Betty Sue French, president, called the meeting to order. A short business meeting was held.

A moment of silent prayer was held for Claudia Thurman, a Woman’s Club member who recently succumbed to cancer.

Kathy DeVeau presented the devotional per DVD in her absence.

WKU Radcliff center to close

Western Kentucky University programs in Radcliff are moving to other parts of the county.

WKU’s center in Radcliff, part of the Elizabethtown-Radcliff-Fort Knox campus, is planned to close as part of budget reductions being made across the university’s programs. The reductions are part of the fiscal year 2013-14 budget, which is expected to be approved by WKU’s Board of Regents in June.

PREP COACHING ROUNDUP: Garrison named North Hardin girls' soccer coach (05/14)

One Hardin County Schools high school recently filled a varsity coaching position for this coming fall season, while another finds itself in a hurry to fill another open position.

North Hardin announced Tony Garrison as its girls’ soccer coach, while Brian Walters is no longer John Hardin’s volleyball coach.

Garrison follows Hayley Yourous, who stepped down after a 55-85-15 mark in eight seasons. North Hardin was 9-8-1 this past season, losing 8-0 to Elizabethtown in the 17th District Tournament semifinals.

Students graduate, celebrate at ECTC commencement

Almost 200 graduates walked the line into a new phase of their lives Monday as the school year ended at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College.

The commencement ceremony for ECTC took place at Central Hardin High School. There were 186 graduates who participated in the ceremony, of 898 students graduating from the college this year.

David Wallace, retired chairman of Nabors Completion & Production Services Company, gave the commencement address. He is a 1974 ECTC graduate and was named a distinguished alumnus in 2010.

PREP TENNIS: Tough draw for State for area boys' doubles teams (05/15)

The KHSAA State Tennis Tournament draw Monday night turned out to be favorable for some area players and downright cruel to others – especially in the boys’ doubles bracket.

The area earned two seeds for girls, but all three area entries into the boys’ doubles bracket earned first-round matches with seeded duos.

Toddler among three dead in fire

A toddler and two men lost their lives Sunday night in a residential fire in Grayson County.

The fire started just before 11 p.m. CDT at a trailer on VanMeter Lane off Ky. 920. Firefighters say it took moments to get to the residence but it was fully engulfed and they couldn’t enter the structure.

Eddie Clouse and his son, Cole Clause, who would have celebrated his second birthday next month, died in the fire along with a family friend, Kalvin King.
