Possible failed child abduction investigated

Hodgenville police are investigating what may have been an attempted child abduction.

Chief Steven Johnson said he received a call Monday from a woman who said her son was walking after school on  South Lincoln Boulevard near Citizens Union Bank in Hodgenville when a tan GMC truck stopped near him.

The 12-year-old boy told his mother the man driving pulled the truck up to the curb but didn’t roll down the window. Then, he started signaling for the boy to approach, Johnson said.

I hope all of the moms out there had a great Mother’s Day. I sure did. I got to spend it with my mom and my two sisters. With our busy lives, it is tough to get us all together, but we did it. My mom really enjoyed it as well.

ANNIVERSARIES. Happy anniversary to Billy and Kim Ashley on May 21. They are two really great people with two wonderful sons. They must take after their mother. Just kidding, Billy. I hope you both have a great day and you have another 50 years together.

The second Select Preps banquet was held at Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, culminating several months of work by newspaper employees, area coaches, athletic directors and student-athletes. Dozens of businesses saw the worthiness of honoring some of our future leaders and served as sport or event sponsors.

Our precious loss: 25 years after the bus crash

Some days, without warning, Darrin Jaquess is taken back to that dark place on Interstate 71 late on a Saturday night in May, nearly 25 years ago, after a fun-filled, memory-making day at King’s Island.

Harold Dennis, Carey Aurentz Cummins and Ciaran Foran Madden are reminded of that night with a look in the mirror or when they get out of bed each day.

 Jaquess remembers the smell from the burning school bus that had carried 67 people to the amusement park and the start of the return trip to Radcliff. Only 40 would make it home alive.

As far back as I can remember, my mom has sewn.

She made dresses for my sisters and me, always in the latest styles and colors. Mom might use a paper pattern for a baseline, but she added her own unique touches. When I was a girl, some mornings I would wake to find a new Barbie doll dress on my night stand. When my boys were young, she made surf shorts for them in wild prints.
