Breakfast brawl: Women charged after May altercation at Waffle House

Two Radcliff women are in custody after an altercation at a Waffle House restaurant in Radcliff left a third woman with a 2-inch gash on her forehead after she was struck with a sugar dispenser.

Ashley Dubose, 24, and Alisa Ruttley, 23, are charged with second-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief. The assault charge is a Class C felony punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison.

According to the arrest warrant, after 6 a.m. May 19, Ruttley held the third woman down while Dubose struck her with with the sugar dispenser.

Donation pays for HCS teaching training

The partnership between Hardin County Schools and Science Applications International Corp. continued Monday with another gift from the company to the district.

HCS received $8,000 from Science Applications International Corp. on Monday, the latest in a series of financial gifts between the company and the school district.

NOTEBOOK: Elam vaults to a five-star, top-10 recruit (06/18)

Don’t be surprised if John Hardin senior lineman Matt Elam changes the preferred spelling of his last name to El*****m.

That’s because the 6-foot-5, 340-pound defensive tackle vaulted to a five-star recruit Monday by 24-7 Sports.

The website also gave Elam a 99 player ranking and made him a top-10 recruit for the 2014 class. The website said Elam is the No. 1 player in the state and the No. 2 defensive tackle in the country.

Officials remember, mourn the loss of Mayor Tim Walker

City employees talked about their fondness for Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker during a news conference Friday morning and discussed what the city will need to do to move forward.

Walker, 54, was pronounced dead at 5:33 a.m. Friday by Hardin County Deputy Coroner Kenneth Spangenberger at Hardin Memorial Hospital after he died at his home.

Music students perform spring recital

Students at the Music and Arts Center for Cultural Learning in Elizabethtown recently performed in the center’s spring recital.

Piano student Ayla Hawkins, 3, played Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” a boogie medley. She has qualified for the Central Kentucky Music Teacher Association competition in Campbellsville in November.

Isaac Morgan, also a 3-year-old piano student, played “Heart and Soul” with teacher Carina Tiotuico. He also qualified for the Campbellsville competition.

ATHLETICS: WKU's Petrino excited for future (06/18)

Loy Brashear met new Western Kentucky University football coach Bobby Petrino on Monday and made a pretty bold prediction.

The longtime area resident, one-time WKU student and co-owner of the Heartland Golf Club told Petrino he believed the Hilltoppers could win eight to 10 games this fall.

“Coach Petrino is very impressive,” Brashear said during the Toppers on Tour stop at Heartland. “The man can coach.”

E'town man indicted on 23 charges

An Elizabethtown teen faces more than 20 theft- and drug-related charges following an indictment by a Hardin County grand jury.

Kyle David Schwanz, 19, was indicted Thursday on three counts of receiving stolen property less than $10,000, three counts of theft of a legend drug, second-degree burglary, receiving a stolen firearm, second-degree fleeing or evading police, second-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and 11 counts of receiving stolen property less than $500.

Two local churches cut ties with Boy Scouts

At least two local churches will dissolve their charters with the Boy Scouts of America once they expire later this year because of a new policy accepting gay youth into the organization, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2014.

Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown and Rineyville Baptist Church have disavowed their partnerships with scouting because the new policy contradicts Biblical and church standards adhered to by both congregations, church leaders said Tuesday.
