PREP TENNIS: E'town beats South Oldham before falling to Sacred Heart

If there’s one thing the Elizabethtown girls’ tennis team can take away from State Team Sectionals on Saturday, it’s that they’ll be well-prepped for what’s to come this week.

The Lady Panthers split a pair of matches in an up-and-down day against hard-hitting South Oldham and Louisville Sacred Heart in their final tune-up before the state tournament begins Thursday in Lexington.

Armers celebrate 40th anniversary

William and Hiroko Armer of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 40th anniversary May 12, 2013, in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

They were married May 12, 1973, in Carson City, Nev.

Mr. Armer is retired from the U.S. Army and the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Mrs. Armer is retired from Big Lots in Elizabethtown.

They have one daughter, Annette Marie Armer of Louisville.

PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Central Hardin, LaRue County win via walkoff (05/14)

A walkoff squeeze play by a prolific power hitter kept the ninth-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins from being upset Monday night by Marion County.

Senior Baylee Sullivan doubled to leadoff of the bottom of the seventh and took third on a fielder’s choice on a ball hit by senior Jackie Holbert before scoring on a bunt by Jordan Lasley as Central Hardin earned a 2-1 win over reigning 5th Region Tournament runner-up Lady Knights (19-9).

Heath Seymour, executive director of the Elizabethtown-Hardin County Heritage Council, said he believes the investment would prove worthwhile because it will produce a product the city could lease, rent or sell at a competitive price.
