Bluegrass Middle School cheerleaders finish year ranked No. 1 (5/14)

Bluegrass Middle School cheerleading coach Stephanie Phillips kept telling her squad it would compete in more competition. But she had no idea that it would all end with the Colts being ranked No. 1.

After competitions in Louisville and Bowling Green, Phillips told the squad it would do one more event before calling it a season. But the Colts finished first and were named grand champions at the Cheer Elite Bluegrass Classic National Championship in early March at Lexington Christian Academy, where they earned a bid to the U.S. Finals.

Potted Few Garden Club Executive Board plans for coming year

The Fort Knox Potted Few Garden Club Executive Board gathers to plan for the 2013-14 Club year to include field trips and community visitations. E'town reviews mutual aid agreement

Elizabethtown officials reviewed a mutual aid agreement with local police departments in Radcliff, Vine Grove and West Point; Hardin County Sheriff’s Office; and Kentucky State Police earlier this week.

Police Chief Tracy Schiller said the agreement formalizes a process the departments have adhered to in a more informal manner for years, ensuring the agencies are available to one another when and if an emergency strikes or a situation arises endangering the public's welfare and safety.

PREP TENNIS: Sore arm, silver lining for Skaggs (05/15)

From his days playing tee-ball all the way through seventh grade, Tad Skaggs’ favorite sport was always baseball.

Those feelings resurface every time he watches the Central Hardin baseball team play or catches a game on television.

But ever since an arm injury forced him to quit playing, the senior has been pounding the ball in a different way.

Instead of possibly playing on the state’s top-ranked baseball team at Central Hardin, Skaggs has forged a different path, and a successful one at that.

PREP TENNIS: Tough draw for State for area boys' doubles teams (05/15)

The KHSAA State Tennis Tournament draw Monday night turned out to be favorable for some area players and downright cruel to others – especially in the boys’ doubles bracket.

The area earned two seeds for girls, but all three area entries into the boys’ doubles bracket earned first-round matches with seeded duos.

Tina Watson wiped away a tear as her 2-year-old daughter, Dallas, stood nearby, fresh off an impromptu dance on Brooks Field as the 113th Army Band launched into the Army song.

Her husband, Pfc. Keith Watson, stood in a line of soldiers Tuesday morning, hoisting a flag against the brilliant blue sky, fluttering in the breeze.

“We’re just ready for him to go and come back,” she said. “He’s excited. It’s his first experience.”

Crews finish repairs to Valley Creek overpass

Eastbound traffic at mile-marker 132 of Western Kentucky Parkway near Elizabethtown was reduced to one lane Wednesday while crews continued to repair railings sheared off a bridge during a semi wreck Tuesday.

Orange barrels lined the bridge over Valley Creek as crews with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet replaced guard and side rails on the overpass, according to the cabinet’s District 4 office in Elizabethtown. The repairs were expected to be finished Wednesday.
