Radcliff Woman’s Club members donate books to library

 

During National Library Week, April 15 through 20, the Radcliff Woman’s Club shared a few words with the Hardin County Public Library, North Branch in Radcliff. Words like “good job,” “keep up the excellent work” and “we support you” were conveyed through the contribution of three books to the library.

Stamp Out Hunger helps relieve need

Postal workers delivered more than mail last week.

They brought area families in need the chance to eat and a local charity a way to save money while providing services.

Stamp Out Hunger brought in 7,223 pounds of food in Elizabethtown and about 8,700 pounds from Radcliff. The Vine Grove and Fort Knox post offices also collected food.

That amount was about the same as last year’s collection for Radcliff and 183 pounds less than last year for Elizabethtown.

Celebration planned to provide information to senior citizens

An event Thursday is aimed at helping seniors care for themselves and find services they might need now or in the future.

The 27th annual Senior Celebration is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pritchard Community Center on South Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown.

The event kicks off with comments from state Rep. Jimmie Lee, Elizabethtown Mayor Tim Walker and Humana consultant Ken Shultz.

Awards are planned to be distributed to seniors.

PREP BASEBALL: Meade tops Central in extra innings (5/15)

The Meade County Green Wave did what many teams haven’t been able to do this season against Central Hardin senior Drew Harrington: score.

Although they only had three hits, the Green Wave took advantage of two errors in the top of the eighth inning to upset the top-ranked Bruins, 3-1 on Tuesday at Central Park.

“I talked to them early on that we were going to have bad at-bats,” Meade County coach Todd Clanton said. “But we can’t get down. We have to keep grinding it at the plate and good things will happen.”

PREP TENNIS: Sore arm, silver lining for Skaggs (05/15)

From his days playing tee-ball all the way through seventh grade, Tad Skaggs’ favorite sport was always baseball.

Those feelings resurface every time he watches the Central Hardin baseball team play or catches a game on television.

But ever since an arm injury forced him to quit playing, the senior has been pounding the ball in a different way.

Instead of possibly playing on the state’s top-ranked baseball team at Central Hardin, Skaggs has forged a different path, and a successful one at that.

Police to increase presence at schools

In an effort to coordinate and improve safety in schools throughout Hardin County, local law enforcement is in the beginning stages of implementing an adopt-a-school program.

Following the school shooting tragedy last December in Newtown, Conn., local agencies launched a series of meetings concerning efforts to increase safety of students and faculty in all schools in the county, including private and alternative.

Hardin District Judge Shumate addresses DAV Chapter 003 members

Hardin District Judge Kimberly Winkenhofer Shumate was a special guest of DAV Chapter No. 003 at its March meeting at Pritchard Community Center. Shumate addressed members and described the new Veterans Court that soon will be piloted in Hardin County. She advised Jefferson County was selected to serve as the urban model while Hardin County was selected for the rural model of the first Veterans Courts in Kentucky.

Hardin County Fair pageant registration set for May 28

Registrations for this year’s Hardin County Fair Pageants are from 6 to 7 p.m. May 28, at the Hardin County Fairgrounds.

Contestants must reside in Hardin County and will need to provide a copy of their birth certificate at time of registration. The pageants are July 8 through 13 during the fair.

Local legislators decry political excesses of redistricting

During impromptu remarks at a breakfast gathering Thursday, two local legislators pledged to ensure northern Hardin County gets a fair shake when the General Assembly redraws its boundaries.
