VFW Post 10281 hosts motorcycle...

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10281 recently hosted the 11th Annual Spring fling, a fundraising “Run for the Homeless Vets.”

The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, Kentucky Chapter 1-2 organized this year’s event and the poker run began and ended at the VFW Post. The morning began with participants signing up for the event, then breakfast at the Post. At the completion of the run, riders returned to the VFW post, where door prizes were given out and the riders took time to discuss the run, sharing camaraderie and memories of past runs.

The General Federation of Woman’s Clubs of Elizabethtown worked throughout the year to raise funds for community organizations Recently members gave donations to Feeding America, Elizabethtown Police Department for “Shop with a Cop”, SpringHaven Domestic Violence Center and the Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center.

Cox graduates from basic training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Curtis N. Cox graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio. He earned distinction as an honor graduate, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class of 661 airmen. He also received a certificate of “Thunderbolt” for exceeding the BMT fitness standards with a composite score of 90 or above on the Air Force Fitness Assessment.

Michelle Lea Mickow of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Lance Cpl. Heath M. Milby of New River, N.C., announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

The bride-to-be, the daughter of Ann and Bob Furry and Royce Bozeman, is a school nurse.

The prospective groom, the son of Wayne and Jonia Johnson and Mike and Linda Milby, is in air mechanics school for the Marines.

The wedding is at 6 p.m. July 5, 2012, in Navarre Beach, Fla.

Music students perform spring...

Students at the Music and Arts Center for Cultural Learning in Elizabethtown recently performed in the center’s spring recital.

Piano student Ayla Hawkins, 3, played Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy,” a boogie medley. She has qualified for the Central Kentucky Music Teacher Association competition in Campbellsville in November.

Isaac Morgan, also a 3-year-old piano student, played “Heart and Soul” with teacher Carina Tiotuico. He also qualified for the Campbellsville competition.
