PREP ROUNDUP: E’town beats Boyle; Hawks rout Monroe

Andrew Ballard scored on a free kick from about 30 yards out with 16:28 left in the second half and the Elizabethtown boys’ soccer team scored three more times in a 5-0 victory over visiting Boyle County Tuesday evening in the season opener for both clubs.

Bryce Bowers scored twice, once on a Bryan Herringshaw assist. Herringshaw added another assist, this on Cole Varela’s goal. Dylan Barnes scored the fourth goal on a Connor Goodman helper.

Brandon Parsons and Jackson Holt combined on the shutout. Parsons made a pair of saves.

The Panthers (1-0) welcome Lexington Catholic at 7 p.m. Thursday.

CENTRAL HARDIN 4, OWENSBORO 3. Riley Kirkpatrick scored with 3:43 left in the game off a Noah Masterson assist to give the host Bruins the victory in the season opener for both teams.

Dan Torres opened the scoring for Central Hardin with 17:25 left in the first half off a Kirkpatrick assist.

The Bruins’ Michael Mensch scored at 23:06 of the second half for a 2-1 lead, but the visitors tied it up three minutes later.

Welles Emery scored in the 69th minute off a long chip, but the Red Devils tied it again two minutes later.

Keeper Ridge Disselkamp finished with five saves.

“Ridge made some big saves,” Coach Justin Maddock said.

Central Hardin (1-0) heads to Warren Central at 7 p.m. Thursday.

LARUE COUNTY 10, MONROE COUNTY 0. Caleb Altman scored seven times as the Hawks opened their season with a mercy-rule victory that ended with 6:45 left in the contest.

Aaron Silva scored twice and Luis Vazquez added another. Keeper Silas Taylor pitched a shutout.

Jorge Martinez had two assists, while Silva, Logan Mitchell, Simon Coy and Keaton Knox each had one.

LaRue County (1-0) hosts Taylor County at 11 a.m. Saturday.

OLDHAM COUNTY 6, NORTH HARDIN 1. The Colonels held a 4-1 lead at halftime as both teams began their seasons.

Cayden Logsdon scored off a Noah Kispert corner kick for the Trojans’ lone goal.

Brayden LaRue made 12 saves and Thomas Keen three for North Hardin, which plays at North Oldham at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

CENTRAL HARDIN 2, BOWLING GREEN 1. The Lady Bruins evened their record (1-1) as Coach Chris Wilk got his first victory. Central Hardin heads to Oldham County at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

GOLF

CENTRAL HARDIN WINS TWICE. The Bruins defeated Bullitt East Tuesday at Elizabethtown Country Club, 177-192 (boys) and 175-226 (girls).

Junior Allan Lockwood was the medalist with a 2-under 34 for Central Hardin. Tanner Hess shot 43, Gabe Graham and Caleb Young each had 50, while Chris Baker shot 51 and Ethan Best 56.

Aiden Robinson shot 39 for the Chargers. Thomas Bryan shot 47, Gavin Coffman 50, while Kyle Schuler and Austin Hale each had 56.

Central Hardin’s Katie Gray and Bullitt East’s Macie Brown shared medalist honors with a 40.

For the Lady Bruins, Paige Gray carded a 41, Marlee Toothaker 44, Hannah Pence 50, Tessa Martin 51 and Paige Apperson 57.

Alayna Wells shot 55 for the Lady Chargers. Abi Huffman had 59 and Shelby Halter 72. Quincy Latkovski shot 57 and Abigail Hibbard 62 for Bullitt Central.
