  • PREP BASEBALL: LaRue's...

Coach Chris Price’s small ball philosophy continues to keep the LaRue County Hawks soaring back into games.

They’re moving runners over with perfectly executed bunts, staying aggressive on the basepaths and stealing their way back from some significant deficits and turning them into wins.

  • BOYS' PREP TRACK: North...

The North Hardin High School boys’ track team tried to everything back together Friday afternoon following a faceoff that didn’t go as planned with four-time Class 3-A state champion Louisville Male in a dual meet Thursday.

A former athlete helped lessen the sting of the loss. Coach James Webb asked Travis Thompson, a 2002 North Hardin graduate, to briefly speak to the current boys’ and girls’ teams.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Schools squeeze...

It’s the heart of the high school spring sports season, but that doesn’t mean that six of the seven area schools can’t find time to squeeze in a little football.

Central Hardin, Elizabethtown, John Hardin, LaRue County, Meade County and North Hardin all have concluded their spring football drills. Fort Knox does not currently have a coach after Brandon Combs resigned in the offseason.

  • SWIMMING: Glenn Mills puts...

Like Doug E. Doug’s character Sanka Coffie in the 1993 Disney comedy Cool Runnings, the Elizabethtown Dolphins have been feeling very Olympic.

That’s because as they cap off to their summer practice return, former U.S. Olympic Team member Glenn Mills served as a mentor to the Dolphins during training sessions Friday evening and most of Saturday at the T.K. Stone Middle School indoor pool.

Junior Hunter Barnes and senior Devin Clark combined on a one-hitter to lead the Central Hardin Bruins to a 13-0 five-inning win over visiting 17th District rival Fort Knox on Thursday.

Barnes (1-0) struck out five and walked three in four innings.

Sophomore Troy Squires doubled, tripled, drove in three runs and scored twice, while senior Russ Morse had two singles, three RBIs and a run.

Junior Matt Hubner singled for Fort Knox’s only hit. He also took the loss on the mound.

  • PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Krupinski...

Senior Kristina Krupinski had a double, triple and two RBIs and picked up the win on the mound to lead the 21st-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins to an 8-2 win over homestanding 5th Region foe Taylor County on Thursday.

Krupinski (8-1) struck out four and allowed four hits, one earned run and one walk in seven innings.

Eighth-grader Kelsey McGuffin had a triple and an RBI, while junior Wesley Edwards had a single and double.

  • YOUTH BASEBALL: Pyles, Lawler...

When longtime friend Jeff Gregory stepped to the podium set up just in front of home plate at the Elizabethtown Area Baseball Commission’s Sonny Chaput Field, Mike Pyles knew something was up.

When Gregory mentioned his name, Pyles realized what was going on.

Along with former coach Tim Lawler, Pyles was inducted Thursday into the EABC’s Hall of Fame.
