  • PREP VOLLEYBALL: First-set...

Postseason volleyball tournament jitters are one issue.

But that anxiety that hits during the first set of the 5th Region Volleyball Tournament, that’s another.

  • BOYS' PREP SOCCER: Central...

The more things change in the Boys’ 5th Region Soccer Tournament, the more they stay the same.

At least for the Central Hardin Bruins.

For the third straight year, the Bruins will play the Nelson County Cardinals in the tournament.

Only this time, it’s in the quarterfinals instead of the semifinals. And on a Sunday instead of a Monday or Tuesday. And at Nelson County instead of at Bardstown Bethlehem or in Hardin County.

  • GIRLS' PREP SOCCER: LaRue...

If the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers have their way, the LaRue County Lady Hawks’ first stay in the Girls’ 5th Region Soccer Tournament will be an extremely short one.

During Friday’s draw at tournament host Central Hardin, the 18th District Tournament runner-up Lady Hawks (6-8-2) drew into Monday’s first quarterfinal at 6 p.m. against the 19th District Tournament champion Lady Panthers (12-5-2), pitting a region rookie against a wily and heavily favored veteran.

  • FOOTBALL FRIDAY UPDATE: Meade...

Meade County’s running game looks like it’s come out of hibernation.

And the Green Wave defense came up with some momentum-changing and opportunistic stops again.

  • FOOTBALL FRIDAY UPDATE: John...

The John Hardin Bulldogs have dominated the series against the North Hardin Trojans lately, but they took it to a new level Friday night.

  • FOOTBALL FRIDAY UPDATE: LaRue...

There was no havoc in Hodgenville on Friday night.

Unless you count the LaRue County Hawks wreaking havoc on the Elizabethtown Panthers.

Three running backs rushed for 100 or more yards for the second straight game and the Hawks finished with 411 yards on the ground as they cruised to a 33-6 win over rival Elizabethtown in a Class 3-A, District 3 game.

Senior Caleb Canter rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns, while seniors Matthew Hornback (125 yards) and Kelton Ford (100) also scored for the Hawks, who locked up a home playoff game with the win.

  • FOOTBALL FRIDAY UPDATE:...

LOUISVILLE Trailing 20-0 early in the third quarter, the Fort Knox Eagles rallied enough to have a chance to tie the score before falling to the host Shawnee Golden Eagles, 27-20 on Friday night. It’s a defeat which eliminated Fort Knox from earning one of Class 2-A, District 4’s four playoff spots.

  • PREP SOCCER/VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP:...

The Marion County Knights held prolific scorer Alex Cook and the LaRue County Hawks in check Thursday night as they won the championship of the Boys’ 18th District Soccer Tournament, 3-1 in Lebanon.

Cook, a senior striker, scored twice in the teams’ regular-season meeting and had the Hawks’ goal Thursday night, but the Knights had built a 3-0 lead before he found the back of the net with 4 minutes left in the first half. Senior Marshall Metcalf had the assist.

  • PREP VOLLEYBALL: Rematches...

The 5th Region Volleyball Tournament pairings are out and all three area teams involved could face some tough rematches.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Eagles hope to...

With a spot in the Class 2-A playoffs potentially up for grabs last Friday night, optimism was running high at Fort Knox.

The Eagles were confident they could beat District 4 foe Washington County, which would put them one step closer to making the playoffs.

A 41-6 loss to the previously winless Commanders, however, has tempered those expectations. The Commanders jumped out to a 14-6 first-quarter lead and led 27-6 at the half.
