  • PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Meade...

Sophomore Logan Hicks struck out six and the Meade County Green Wave held off homestanding Corydon (Ind.) Central, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Hicks (1-2) scattered four hits and one earned run in six innings.

Meade County (7-8) pounded out 11 hits en route to its second straight win. Junior Zeb Wilson had an RBI double, while Hicks had two singles and an RBI. Freshman Kase Mattingly hit three singles.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: North Hardin...

Practically the only thing pitcher Bailey Blair didn’t do Tuesday afternoon for North Hardin was drive the team bus.

But the sophomore is just 15, so she shouldn’t be driving anything – legally, anyway. And her Trojans were hosting 17th District rival John Hardin, so transportation wasn’t an issue.

  • PREP SOFTBALL-PREP BASEBALL...

The 21st-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins erased two three-run deficits against visiting Bowling Green on Tuesday as they rallied past the 10th-ranked Lady Gators in 10 innings, 7-6.

Junior winning pitcher April Pence helped herself by going 2-for-5 with two runs scored. She struck out 13, walked four and allowed seven hits.

Senior Baylee Sullivan doubled, scored twice and drove in two. Senior Jackie Hobert went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Trojans pull away...

Like many young players, North Hardin freshman Shae Krupinski hit a lull at the plate when his timing was just a bit off. He was pulling his front shoulder and not making good contact.

After helping his Trojans pick up a 17th District win Tuesday over the homestanding John Hardin Bulldogs, Krupinski could be turning things around.

Krupinski went 2-for-4 with a two-run triple and a run-scoring single, and reached on an error that led to three more runs as the Trojans won, 14-8.

  • PREP BASEBALL: Central routs E...

The Central Hardin Bruins put together a nearly perfect game Tuesday against the Elizabethtown Panthers.

Central Hardin senior Drew Harrington was one out away from perfection, senior Zach Ditto blasted a two-run homer in his first at-bat against his former team and the Bruins rolled to a 10-0 mercy-rule victory over the visiting Panthers in a 17th District game.

“I like our chances with Drew on the mound and we hit it like that,” said Ditto, who reached base in all three plate appearances.

  • PREP BASEBALL OPINION: Central...

    Never satisfied.

It is the mantra Central Hardin coach Todd Thompson used in his playing days and it is the same as a coach, which has made him successful at both. He has built the Bruins into the premier program in the 5th Region. Even after winning the state championship in 2011, Thompson kept an eye on the future, wanting the program to keep pushing for more.

  • PREP FISHING: Elizabethtown duo...

MT.EDEN — With a 2-pound catch, the Elizabethtown duo of Gavin Wood and Nick Ratliff finished 12th out of 45 teams Sunday in the inaugural KHSAA 2nd Region Bass Fishing Championship at Taylorsville Lake.

The finish allowed Wood and Ratliff to qualify for the KHSAA State Bass Fishing Championship, which will be held April 26-27 at Kentucky Lake.

Louisville St. Xavier won the region title.

  • PREP BASEBALL/SOFTBALL ROUNDUP:...

The number 13 is hardly unlucky for Central Hardin.

Freshman Justin Rouse walked in the bottom of the second and scored as Greenwood committed two errors on a ball put into play by sophomore Britton Elmore as the seventh-ranked Bruins moved to 13-0 on Monday night with a 1-0 win over the visiting Gators.

Central Hardin senior Troy Squires had two singles and stole two bases. He also pitched a hitless seventh inning to pick up his fourth save.
