  • PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Lady...

    First-year coach Deron Bell earned his first victory as John Hardin pounded out 23 hits en route to an 18-3 mercy-rule win over Thomas Nelson on Saturday.

    Sophomore Channing Ray went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, while junior Kaitlyn Embry went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Senior Brooke Reed had three singles and two runs, while senior Katlyn Geer added three singles, a double, four runs and two RBIs.

    Geer (1-4) struck out nine while allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run in six innings.

  • PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Bruins...

    The ninth-ranked Central Hardin Bruins picked up a pair of wins over the weekend to remain undefeated.

    Central Hardin beat Louisville Butler, 2-0 on Saturday and routed 5th Region foe Campbellsville, 13-1 in five innings Friday.

    n Junior right-hander Josh Krupinski struck out 10 and gave up just one hit in five innings, improving to 2-0 as the Bruins (4-0) topped Butler.

    Senior Troy Squires had an RBI single and senior Zach Ditto followed with an RBI double in the bottom of the third.

    Ashley Nikolao has been a fixture in the Meade County lineup since she was a middle-schooler. Still, the Lady Waves’ star shortstop said she had never seen Mike Harreld yell as much as the veteran Meade County coach did during Wednesday’s practice following his team’s season-opening loss Tuesday to Louisville Eastern.

    Meade County softball coach Mike Harreld sees this weekend as a trial by fire for his young Lady Waves.

    Sure they get to stay home in the friendly confines of Meade-Olin Park, but that might be the only thing the Lady Waves have in their favor.

  • PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Bulldogs...

    Junior Lavonte Wilson’s RBI infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the John Hardin Bulldogs to a 5-4 win over Breckinridge County on Thursday.

    Wilson drove in freshman Garrison McMillen, who was pinch-running for junior Brian Panckey – who gave the Bulldogs (3-2) a 4-2 lead in the third with a three-run double. Junior Dale Gumm doubled for John Hardin, while senior Montaque Pittman and sophomore Dakoda Rothermel each had two singles.

  • PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Central...

    Junior right-hander Josh Krupinski and sophomore Luke McCamish combined on a no-hitter as the ninth-ranked Central Hardin Bruins routed Louisville Southern, 12-0 in five innings Wednesday.

    Krupinski (1-0) struck out five and walked two in three innings, while McCamish had one strikeout in two innings.

    The Bruins (2-0) pounded out 14 hits – all singles. Central Hardin coach Todd Thompson said a strong wind blowing in from the outfield led to both teams playing their outfielders closer to the infield.

    Senior Zach Ditto singled to right field to drive in senior Alex Crowder, lifting the ninth-ranked Central Hardin Bruins to a 2-1 win over visiting Glasgow in eight innings Tuesday.

    The Bruins (1-0) tied it in the seventh.

    Senior Troy Squires singled and doubled, while junior Troy Riggs had two singles.

    Squires got the win in relief of senior lefty Drew Harrington, who struck out 12 in five innings and gave up just two hits. Squires struck out five and walked one in 2 1/3 innings.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Central Hardin...

    The 23rd-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins were wide awake in their season debut at home Tuesday night, putting LaRue County on its heels early.

    After the Lady Hawks put up a spirited rally, the Lady Bruins awoke from their sudden offensive slumber to subdue their 5th Region rival.

    Led by All-Region sophomore shortstop Kelsey McGuffin’s two-run single that gave her team the lead for good, the Lady Bruins’ final four hits came in their three-run fifth inning as Central Hardin topped the Lady Hawks, 8-5.
