    MUNFORDVILLE — Like two prized heavyweights matching one another punch-for-punch, the John Hardin Bulldogs finally landed a haymaker the Bardstown Tigers feared.

    Trailing by two with less than 5 minutes left, John Hardin used a 10-2 fourth-quarter spurt to seize control and the Bulldogs held on for a 68-64 victory over Bardstown on Monday night in the Boys’ 5th Region Basketball Tournament quarterfinals at Hart County.

    Adair County coach Mark Fudge admitted he didn’t want to face the John Hardin Bulldogs in the first round of the Boys’ 5th Region Basketball Tournament.

    Instead of facing the region’s hottest team, Adair County drew the LaRue County Hawks, the team with the second-longest win streak heading into the region tournament.

    Senior guard Carlos Jones’ triple-double led the North Hardin Christian Falcons to a 61-38 win over Louisville Holy Angels on Friday night.

    Jones had 28 points, 13 steals and 11 rebounds, while Chris Kerulis chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

    Freshmen guards Joshua Jones and Juan Dozier combined for 13 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Falcons (22-2).

    John Hardin junior defensive tackle Matt Elam is 2-for-2 so far.

    Two weeks ago, Elam received an offer from the University of Kentucky on the school’s junior day. After receiving an invitation to the University of Alabama’s junior day, Elam attended it Saturday and Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban offered Elam a scholarship.

    Jerry Garris doesn’t like the hand his Meade County Green Wave was dealt during Saturday’s draw meeting for the Boys’ 3rd Region Basketball Tournament.

    Meade County (10-20), the 11th District runner-up, meets Owensboro, the 9th District champion, at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Garris said it was the worst thing that could happen to his team.
