    Elizabethtown Country Club has certainly been in a tournament mood.

    Saturday and Sunday’s Hen and Rooster will be the fourth tournament the club has hosted this summer.

    Transylvania University senior Harry Watts won the Men’s Invitational on June 10, Anderson County resident Laurie Goodlett won the Lady Bug Invitational on June 23 and former Central Hardin High School star Karisa Akin on the Women’s State Am match-play tournament last week.

    This area has been known for producing quality baseball players and this season was further proof of that.

    When it came time for coaches to vote for this year’s All-Area Team, they had a difficult time selecting the best players. Coaches vote for the top 15 players, but they couldn’t vote for their own players.

    That’s why this season’s All-Area Team consists of 20 players. All ties were honored.

    Dehydrated and exhausted, Tamara Jenkins almost didn’t make the check-in for her final event at the Class 3-A state track meet in May.

    Having helped the North Hardin Lady Trojans win the 400-meter relay and picking up two other medals earlier, Jenkins had only minutes to recuperate and get ready for the 200 dash.

    Jenkins mustered enough strength to finish second in the 200, giving her four medals – an area feat matched on the girls’ side by Fort Knox senior Kiara Austin.

    Years from now, when Central Hardin’s Antoine Keys looks back on his senior season, a lot of great memories should come to mind.

    From winning a region title twice – after winning the 100-meter dash at the Class 3-A, Region 2 meet, he won it again when the race was contested a second time – to capping off his career with four medals at the state meet in May, Keys had a remarkable season.

    Reece Sherrard and Clint Chambliss helped the Elizabethtown Area Baseball Commission 8-year-old All-Stars stave off elimination Tuesday in the Cal Ripken District 7 Tournament.

    Sherrard and Chambliss combined for four hits, six RBIs and three runs as EABC topped Meade County White, 18-7 at University Drive Park in Elizabethtown.
