    It didn’t take long for Emily Richardson to fall in love with the University of Evansville.

    After taking a visit to the college in the fall, the Elizabethtown senior knew Evansville was where she wanted to spend the next four years of her life.

    Richardson was also considering Morehead State and a few other in-state schools, but knew Evansville was the place for her.

    Being the son of a coach can be tough. It can have its perks, but everything isn’t always peachy keen between father and son.

    Just ask LaRue County senior 170-pounder Caleb Canter (45-0), the son of Hall of Fame wrestling coach Gary Canter.

    If the Hawks don’t do something correctly in practice, Caleb is the one who typically feels the brunt of his dad’s frustration. Even if it’s not him who’s messing up, Caleb is usually the one getting chastised.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

    Junior center Zacchea Small’s double-double helped the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs match the school record for wins with a 56-52 victory over 5th Region foe Caverna on Tuesday.

    Small had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for John Hardin (19-7), which can break the record with a win Saturday. Senior post Michelle Montgomery chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Tajah Haley had 12 points and eight assists.

    Troy Squires went from ice-cold to red-hot Tuesday night.

    After missing his first three 3-pointers against the visiting Adair County Indians, the Central Hardin senior guard buried each of his next seven tries from behind the arc to lead the Bruins to a 67-41 win over their 5th Region rival.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Central Hardin...

    After failing to win the 5th Region Softball Tournament in 2012, the Central Hardin Lady Bruins are fully expected to go back to the state tournament this year.

    When a statewide coaches’ poll was released Monday, the Lady Bruins found themselves at the top of the 5th Region preseason rankings.

    While that was news to Central Hardin coach Jamie Goodman, it wasn’t entirely unexpected.

  • 2ND REGION WRESTLING TOURNAMENT...

    With four No. 1 seeds under their belts, the LaRue County Hawks are locked and loaded for a run at their fourth consecutive 2nd Region Wrestling Tournament title.

    The draw was held Sunday at host John Hardin. The tournament starts at 7:30 Friday night with the first two rounds. It resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday with the finals later that night. Admission is $7 per person each day.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

    With the way Domeneque Taft was shooting Monday night, senior forward Chanel Roberts had one goal in mind each time the North Hardin Lady Trojans had the ball: Find Taft.

    Taft had the hot hand in the first half, hitting her first four 3-pointers, to help lead the Lady Trojans to a 73-13 rout of homestanding 17th District rival Fort Knox.

    The junior guard finished 4-of-8 from the arc and scored 14 points for North Hardin, which won for the sixth time in seven games.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

    Meade County’s Morgan Turner got on a roll Monday night. Her Lady Waves stayed on one.

    Paced by 12 points, a game-high 12 rebounds and a game-high five blocks from their star sophomore, the host Lady Waves cruised to a 58-38 win over the Oldham County Lady Colonels.

    Turner also had two assists for the Lady Waves (17-8), who have won six straight and 9-of-11.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL: John...

    All John Hardin senior forward Daveon Greene had to do to get motivated for Monday’s night rematch with the Elizabethtown Panthers was remember the first meeting.

    In that game, Greene was limited to six points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. He managed only four rebounds, while his counterpart, sophomore Zane Najdawi, had a double-double.

  • PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lady...

    Senior forward Megan Aebersold scored 14 points and seven teammates scored at least six as the visiting Meade County Lady Waves rolled past 11th District foe Cloverport Frederick Fraize, 83-18 on Saturday.

    Aebersold also had seven rebounds, five assists and two steals, while junior guard Autumn Bruner chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Ellie DeVries had 10 points, two rebounds and two assists for the Lady Waves (16-8, 5-1 district), who were playing without sophomore Morgan Turner.
