  • COLLEGE BASKETBALL: ECTC Barons...

Shortly after graduating from Central Hardin High School in June 1999, Aaron Butterworth joined the military.

Craig Simpson graduated from Louisville Valley High School in 2000, Cliff Dugger is from Rockford, Ill., and Rob Pittman started alongside current Indiana University star Cody Zeller in high school in Washington, Ind.

None of the four would seem to be on the recently revived Elizabethtown Community & Technical College men’s basketball team, but make no mistake, they are four proud Barons.

  • GIRLS' PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP...

Junior midfielder Mia Wiersema scored three goals – including the game-winner in a shootout – to lift the No. 20 Central Hardin Lady Bruins to a 4-3 win over Anderson County on Monday in the Little Caesar’s Classic at Boyle County.

Sophomore defender Rachel Mobley scored in regulation, while senior forward Olivia Thompson, senior midfielder Haley Ennis and senior keeper Savannah Haberman each scored in the shootout.

The Lady Bruins (5-3-2) won their third straight.

  • COLLEGE SOCCER: ECTC women'...

Kaskaskia (Ill.) College Blue Angels coach Joe Basch looked across the main field at Mike Carroll Soccer Complex on Sunday morning and saw a glimpse of his program’s past.

Elizabethtown Community & Technical College coach Andre Cooper and assistant Darryl Groth were him five years ago trying to build a junior-college program for the Barons from scratch.

Basch also understands what the Barons can become, because his program is proof.

  • PREP SOCCER: Goal Oriented:...

Entering his senior season in the LaRue County High School boys’ soccer program, striker Alex Cook set some lofty goals.

Ideally, he wanted to help lead the Hawks to the 5th Region Tournament. And if he did so while setting the school scoring record, that was just icing on his blue-and-white cake.

Incredibly enough, the latter appears to be all but a formality and the former is quite achievable, too.

  • COLLEGE SOCCER: ECTC Barons fall...

After pulling off a pair of comebacks in their inaugural soccer game the week before, the Elizabethtown Community & Technical College Barons couldn’t rally again Friday evening.

The Barons gave up three early goals to the St. Catharine College reserves, but got two of those back before falling, 3-2 to the Patriots in ECTC’s home debut at the Mike Carroll Soccer Complex.

  • PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: North goes...

The North Hardin Trojans went 2-1 in the Bulldog Challenge at John Hardin, beating Boone County and Madisonville North-Hopkins and falling to No. 18 Louisville Eastern over the weekend.

North Hardin (7-5) beat Boone County, 2-1 on Friday night; lost to Eastern, 1-0 on Saturday morning; and beat Madisonville North-Hopkins, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

n After Boone County took a 1-0 lead in the first 20 minutes, the Trojans rallied with a penalty kick from senior midfielder Elijah Linscott and a goal by junior midfielder Taylor Yates in the final 8 minutes.

  • PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: E'...

The host Elizabethtown Lady Panthers went 4-1 in their own Hilliard Lyons Classic on Saturday, finishing runner-up to 5th Region rival Bardstown Bethlehem.

Elizabethtown beat Bullitt East (25-13, 25-21), Hancock County (26-27, 25-7, 16-14), Bullitt Central (25-9, 25-11) and Pulaski County (25-20, 25-16) before falling to Bethlehem (23-25, 20-25) in the final.

Senior middle blocker Brittany Stokan led Elizabethtown (16-4) with 32 kills, 16 blocks and 16 aces, while senior outside hitter Madison Lark added 19 kills and five aces.
