  • GIRLS' PREP CROSS COUNTRY:...

Katie Lever didn’t think she was a good enough runner to attract the attention of a Division I school.

Coaches at schools such as the University of Louisville, Murray State University and Western Kentucky University disagreed. After watching the John Hardin senior cross-country standout turn in a solid performance at the season-opening St. Xavier Tiger Run in August, coaches from those schools remained on Lever’s trail.

  • PREP WRESTLING: Hawks heavy...

LaRue County’s quest for the school’s first state wrestling championship begins Saturday when the Region 2 Tournament is held at Danville High School.

The top-ranked Hawks dominated during the regular season, when they went undefeated against in-state competition until a loss to No. 2 Union County in the championship of the State Duals.

  • BOYS' MIDDLE SCHOOL...

Shooting horribly in front of their largest crowd of the season on the biggest stage against a higher-seeded “home” team they had already lost to didn’t seem like a recipe for success Thursday night for the third-seeded East Hardin Rebels.

But Harrison Moore and Shane Oberdorf didn’t seem to mind all of those obstacles.

  • BOYS' MIDDLE SCHOOL...

For three quarters Thursday night, it was Miller time.

Then, in the fourth, the rest of J.T. Alton’s eighth-grade boys’ basketball team took turns shouldering the load against East Hardin, carrying the team and lifting the Trojans to the Middle School Athletic Conference tournament title at John Hardin.

  • PREP WRESTLING: Hull putting...

Knowing this was his final season as a LaRue County wrestler, senior Shawn Hull wanted to put everything on the line.

  • SUPER BOWL: Elizabethtown and...

When Eli Manning walked past Logan Hall in the downtown Indianapolis Marriott hotel, the 13-year-old Elizabethtown resident couldn’t believe his luck.

  • PARALYMPICS: Ogbe motivates...

He grew up 1-of-12 children in a rural Nigerian area where running water was nonexistent and electricity was a luxury. At age 3, he contracted malaria and polio, which left his left leg paralyzed. For a shot at a better living, he left his family thousands of miles away to attend Bellarmine University and move to Louisville.

However, the greatest obstacle the multi-time Paralympics gold medalist Dennis Ogbe has tackled is with him no matter where he goes or what he does.
