  • PREP FOOTBALL: Knox ready to...

He may only be in his second year on post, but Shawn Thompson knows just how important the Army Bowl means to the area.

It’s a game steeped in tradition, pitting the nation’s last remaining Department of Defense high schools – Fort Knox and Fort Campbell – against each other annually.

But with the Eagles sitting at 1-2 and in search of some much-needed momentum, Thompson wanted to keep his team focused on the game and not the pageantry of the week.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Rugerio, North...

Quarterback Andrew Rugerio was involved in North Hardin’s first four touchdowns as he sparked the Trojans to a 42-16 win Thursday night on the road against the Louisville Fairdale Bulldogs and coach Chris Engstrand, a former North Hardin assistant.

Rugerio scored North Hardin’s first touchdown on a 5-yard run before hitting Kirk Oxendine for a 3-yard touchdown pass later in the first quarter. Rugerio ran for the conversion to send the Trojans (2-1) into the second quarter up 14-0.

Both games are at the Mike Carroll Soccer Complex in Elizabethtown.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Meade hopes to...

Warren Central has so many running back options that it’s making veteran Meade County coach Larry Mofield’s head spin.

  • BOYS' PREP SOCCER: Howard,...

Both Austin Howard and coach Mike Wiersema admitted the Central Hardin junior left some goals on the table in Tuesday’s win over region rival Thomas Nelson.

After a not-so-pleasant conversation with Wiersema, Howard feasted on those leftovers Thursday night on the road against a 17th District rival.

Howard finished off his hat trick with 3:19 left on a shot that rocketed off the crossbar as the Bruins pulled away from the Elizabethtown Panthers, 5-0.

  • PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lady Bruins top...

Nearly a month after the season started, Central Hardin finally hosted its first home match.

But there was more emotion during the rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” than the No. 11 Lady Bruins displayed on the court Thursday night.
