    For the second straight game, the Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the first and never relinquished it. They scored two runs in the first en route to a 6-2 victory over the LaRue County Hawks on Monday evening at Panther Baseball Park’s Ron Myers Field.

    Spring football has ended for area high schools, but there was an emphasis on transition.

    Some schools are transitioning into new divisions. North Hardin moves up to 6-A this year, while John Hardin drops to 4-A and Fort Knox to 1-A. LaRue County is transitioning with a new head coach, while Central Hardin and Elizabethtown are still adjusting with second-year head coaches.

    The LaRue County Hawks took two years of frustration out on the Green County Dragons.

    The Hawks claimed the top spot for the 18th District Tournament for the first time since 2012 with a 14-1 pounding of rival Green County on Saturday afternoon. It was LaRue County’s first sweep of the Dragons since 2012 when it last won the district title.

    Sophomore Morgan White was effective in the circle as the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers won their fifth straight game Friday.

    White struck out eight and gave up three hits and one earned run as visiting Elizabethtown topped 17th District rival Fort Knox, 10-1.

    The Central Hardin Bruins remained in a funk over the weekend, splitting games with Thomas Nelson and Louisville DuPont Manual.

    Central Hardin beat Thomas Nelson, 9-8 on a walk-off error Saturday and lost to DuPont Manual, 7-0 on Friday.

    The 17th-ranked Bruins (20-7) have gone 2-4 in their last six games.

    Athletes from Fort Knox and Meade County became the area’s first State qualifiers Saturday.

    Fort Knox qualified four individuals and two relay teams during the Class 1-A, Region 3 meet at Green County, while Meade County qualified two individuals in the 3-A, Region 3 meet at Louisville St. Xavier.
