The 10th-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins fell behind in the first inning in both of their games Saturday in Allen County-Scottsville’s Halton Classic but rallied to win both, earning a 6-1 win in six innings against East Robertson (Tenn.) before rallying for a 6-5 win in six innings against Louisville Sacred Heart in their last game.
* Against East Robertson, sophomore April Pence (5-2) settled down after giving up a leadoff home run, striking out six, walking two and scattering three singles the rest of the way.
Senior Bo Wilson was two outs away from a perfect game Saturday and three Meade County players combined to go 12-for-15 at the plate as the visiting Green Wave cruised past the John Hardin Bulldogs, 13-0.
Wilson (2-1) struck out 11 and didn’t allow a hit until giving up three consecutive singles to junior Zach Miller, sophomore Dale Gumm and senior Brandon Arel with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Wilson helped himself with two singles.
Host John Hardin scored six runs in the final four innings to pull away for an 8-3 win over North Bullitt on Thursday.
Senior Hannah Howard went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI, while junior Katlyn Geer went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and an RBI single. Junior Brooke Reed went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Impatient and chasing nearly everything John Hardin starting pitcher Sam Brashear threw at them, the Elizabethtown Panthers struggled to get in any type of groove Thursday.
Relying on his breaking ball, Brashear struck out five batters and John Hardin took a one-run lead after the first three innings. After tying the game in the bottom of the fourth, Elizabethtown finally got its bats going in the fifth.
Drew Harrington giveth and Drew Harrington taketh away.
The North Hardin Trojans scored a run off Harrington in the top of the first, but the Central Hardin junior atoned for it in the bottom half of the inning.
With one out and runners on second and third, Harrington launched a three-run homer to left to spark the third-ranked Bruins to 6-2 victory over North Hardin in a 17th District game Thursday at Central Hardin.
