  • PREP FOOTBALL: Holtsclaw runs to...

All Wade Holtsclaw wanted was one more carry.

After recording just one rushing attempt in the first half of Saturday’s National Guard Border Bowl, the frustrated John Hardin senior made a plea to the Kentucky All-Stars coaching staff during halftime.

“I told the coaches if they just put me in one more time, I could show them,” Holtsclaw said. “I told the coaches at half if they’d give me an opportunity in the second half, I could show them what I could do and they did. The first series I started heating up.”

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL: Up...

The LaRue County Hawks nearly experienced déjà vu Friday night at home against 18th District rival Hart County.

After getting out to a huge lead and holding on for a four-point road victory in December against the Raiders, the Hawks had it happen again. This time, they watched a pair of 17-point leads whittle down to four before emerging with a 46-38 win.

“Can’t you just put ‘Hawks win’ and go on?” sighed veteran LaRue County coach Paul Childress. “Do you really have to write anything about this one?”

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

With one half of the LaRue County Lady Hawks’ dynamic duo sidelined with an injury, the tandem’s other half took over at point guard and took over the game Friday night against visiting 18th District rival Hart County.

Junior Ivy Brown had game highs in points (33), rebounds (eight), steals (six), assists (four) and blocks (two), matching LaRue County senior center Alisha Durbin as the Alexis Brewer-less Lady Hawks rolled past the Lady Raiders, 66-25.
