    fter toiling in the minor leagues for the last four years, Nathan Adcock has found himself on the fast track to the big show.
    Adcock, the former North Hardin standout pitcher who guided the Trojans to the 5th Region title as a senior in 2006, was selected fifth overall Thursday in the Rule 5 Draft by the Kansas City Royals during the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL: John...

    John Hardin went 2-0 over the weekend, picking up a 69-67 win over 5th Region rival Bardstown on Friday and a 76-54 victory over Paducah Lone Oak in the Army Bulldog Classic on Saturday.

    Senior guard Malcolm Foster hit four 3-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead John Hardin (3-0) past Lone Oak.

    Sophomore guard Brandon Price scored 20 points, while junior guard Jeremy Harness had eight and freshman forward Khalil Rasheed had seven.

    John Hardin, which scored 31 points in the third quarter to blow the game open, made 20-of-36 foul shots.

    Central Hardin and Elizabethtown are as different as night and day.

    The Bruins are 3-0. They rely heavily on their perimeter players as they don’t have a dominant inside presence. The Bruins have experience.

    The Panthers are 1-3 after opening the season with a victory over Adair County. They have one of the premier post players in the 5th Region in Mitchell Henry, who is the only Panther with much varsity experience.

    High school basketball one-day events are popular throughout the nation and Hardin County will host two such classics as they’re called Saturday.

    North Hardin will hold the Cameron Irvin Classic, honoring the late Trojan who died in August of last year in an accident. The event is the perfect way to pay tribute to Irvin, according to North Hardin coach Ron Bevars.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

    Sophomore guard Missy Schneider had 12 points and seven steals and eighth-grade guard Shontice Taylor added six points and four steals as the homestanding North Hardin Christian Lady Falcons (2-2) pulled away for a 28-18 win Thursday against the Louisville Dorothy Sayers Bobcats.

    Junior forward Ashley Smith and senior forward Missy Jenkins both added four points each for Norh Hardin Christian, which outscored the Bobcats in the second quarter, 13-2.

    Sophomore guard Brandon Price scored 15 of his 22 points in the first half on 7-of-10 shooting and just missed a triple-double to lead the homestanding Bulldogs to an 87-66 win Wednesday night against visiting 17th District rival Fort Knox.

    Senior guard Matt Nichols scored a career-high 30 points and junior forward Andrew Kinney scored a career-high 23 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the arc as the visiting Central Hardin Bruins rallied to beat Grayson County on Tuesday, 81-67.

    Nichols also had seven rebounds and four assists, while Kinney had four rebounds and three steals.

    Sophomore forward Alex Crowder added eight points, while senior forward Austin Barnett chipped in with six points and four rebounds. Junior guard Cannon Ray had six points, four steals and two assists.

    Some final notes on the prep football season as I continue to put off my Christmas shopping.

    John Hardin senior halfback Landon Savoy put the finishing touches on an outstanding high school career Sunday.

    Savoy returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in the Greater Louisville Football Coaches Association/Drive Cancer Out East-West All-Star Game at Louisville Southern High School. The game matches the top seniors from the Louisville area, which includes Hardin, Breckinridge, Bullitt, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer counties.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

    Senior wing Anika Taylor just missed a quadruple-double and sophomore post Michelle Montgomery notched a double-double as the homestanding John Hardin Lady Bulldogs cruised past 5th Region rival Bardstown Bethlehem on Monday, 87-39.

    Taylor finished with 12 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and seven steals, while Montgomery had 17 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs (1-2) picked up their first win of the season.

    Freshman wing Tajah Haley chipped in with 13 points and seven assists, and sophomore wing Ieshia Hopwood scored 10 points.
