  • KHSAA GIRLS' SOCCER STATE...

Lexy Hazle didn’t get off to the best start this season and it left the Elizabethtown High School senior striker fuming. With the Lady Panthers graduating three NCAA Division-I signees and several other veteran starters, opponents started focusing on defending Hazle a lot more.

  • BOYS' SOCCER STATE...

Taylor Yates was moved to striker shortly after the junior scored North Hardin’s game-winning goal with 14 seconds left in the Trojans’ 2-1 win Sept. 7 against the Boone County Rebels in the John Hardin Bulldog Challenge.

    What a coincidence.

The team responsible for his late-season swoon gets to try to handle him again as the 9th Region Tournament champion Rebels (19-3-3) take on the 5th Region champion Trojans (19-6) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the state tournament quarterfinals at Lexington Henry Clay.

  • KHSAA STATE VOLLEYBALL...

Afton Conner turns gleamy-eyed when describing her emotions about the Central Hardin Lady Bruins’ third straight KHSAA state tournament trip.

There’s so much history this time around.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Bruins lose...

Central Hardin senior Trevor Brown had no explanation Thursday night.

This was supposed to be a senior night of celebration. Of fun. Of riding a new momentum high into the postseason.

  • BOYS' PREP CROSS COUNTRY:...

Thanks to a little talk with mother, Marcus Terrell is entering next weekend’s Class 3-A, Region 2 meet on a pretty big roll.

A pep talk from his mom, Dixie, spurred the North Hardin junior to his second straight victory during Thursday’s Lincoln Trail Heartland Conference meet in Brandenburg.

Terrell won the 70-runner race in a personal-best time of 16 minutes, 34.20 seconds at the sun-splashed Brandenburg Telecom headquarters.

  • GIRLS' PREP CROSS COUNTRY:...

If someone needs an entrant for a tough-guy – sorry, tough-gal – contest, just ask Elizabethtown seventh-grader Savannah Kingery.

During the start of Thursday’s Lincoln Trail Heartland Conference meet, a competitor stepped on Kingery’s shoe and inadvertently caused the youngster to fall to the ground.

  • KHSAA STATE VOLLEYBALL...

Ten years ago, Rita Highbaugh scoured the hallways at Central Hardin High School, middle school gyms and basketball courts for volleyball players.

  • PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Meade's...

The day longtime friends and coaching rivals Larry Garner and John Russell always have circled on their calendar is here.

Since Central Hardin, John Hardin and North Hardin were shifted into the Bowling Green region, Meade County’s Garner and North Hardin’s Russell have always looked forward to the final Thursday in October and the Lincoln Trail Heartland Conference meet in Brandenburg.

  • MEN'S COLLEGE SOCCER: ECTC...

In a season of firsts, the Elizabethtown Community & Technical College Barons men’s soccer team chalked up a couple more Tuesday night at the Mike Carroll Soccer Complex in Elizabethtown.

After getting crushed by Lindsey Wilson College’s junior varsity team, 6-1 on Oct. 3 in Columbia, the Barons turned the tables with a 2-1 win over the Blue Raiders’ reserves.
