  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

    Senior guard Kaylyn Cecil scored 20 points as the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers remained unbeaten in the Sunshine State with a 45-38 win over Orlando (Fla.) East River on Tuesday in the semifinals of the KSA Holiday Classic in Orlando.

    Cecil hit three 3-pointers and also had three rebounds, two steals and one assist, while eighth-grader Erin Boley chipped in with seven points, nine rebounds and one steal.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL...

    Senior Jeremy Harness scored 15 points as the John Hardin Bulldogs snapped a two-game losing skid with a 68-60 win over Daviess County on Tuesday night in the T.J. Samson Hospital Christmas Classic at Barren County.

    Sophomore Keon Williams and junior Brandon Price each scored 12 points, while junior Daveon Greene had 10.

    John Hardin (2-2) led 60-44 going to the fourth quarter.

    Alex Crowder’s emotion carried the Central Hardin Bruins back from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to a thrilling come-from-behind win.

    He helped the Bruins steal the show, as they opened the Bluegrass Cellular Holiday Hoopfest with a last-second victory.

    Andrew Kinney is glad he and the Central Hardin Bruins finally have a break from their 17th District rivals. Well, at least most of them.

    The Central Hardin senior thinks they could use a respite from the pressure involved with district play. Kinney loves Christmas tournament time. New opponents and challenges can breathe new life into a team.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Jaggers named...

    This was an early Christmas present for Josh Jaggers and it capped what has been a very good year.

    Jaggers was named the LaRue County football coach Monday after spending the previous four seasons as a Hawk assistant. Jaggers replaces Rodney Armes, who stepped down at the end of the season after spending 16 years as the Hawks’ coach. Armes is the winningest coach in LaRue County history.

  • PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lady...

    Senior Kaylyn Cecil scored 17 points and eighth-grader Erin Boley added 14 as the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers rolled to a 72-48 win over Fort Pierce (Fla.) Central on Monday in the first round of the KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando, Fla.

    Cecil hit three 3-pointers and also had four rebounds and two steals, while Boley grabbed seven rebounds. Junior Alexis Powell added 11 points and senior Darian Ditto had 10.

    Elizabethtown (5-1) shot 54.7 percent from the field and 73.3 percent from the foul line.

  • SOCCER: John Hardin's Alex...

    Having already made a name for himself on the area, regional and state soccer scenes, Alex Higdon recently took his game to the next level.

    The national one.

    A John Hardin High School junior, Higdon helped the 18-player Region II team win the 1995 boys age group at the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Boys’ NCAA Interregional, which was held Dec. 9-11 at Rathmell Sports Park in Vestavia, Ala. The ODP Interregional is held in conjunction with the Men’s NCAA College Cup.

    Senior Jansen Flood scored 13 points to lead the homestanding Elizabethtown Panthers to a 51-45 win over North Oldham on Friday night.

    Sophomores Nic McDonald and Ja’Von Cotton each scored 10, while sophomore Bryce Byrd had eight.

    Elizabethtown (3-2) led 26-13 at the half en route to its second straight win.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

    Sophomore Ivy Brown had consecutive double-doubles to lead the LaRue County Lady Hawks to back-to-back wins over the weekend.

    LaRue County (2-3) knocked off visiting Daviess County, 48-36 on Saturday after beating 18th District rival Caverna, 60-40 on Friday night.

    n Brown had 14 points, 12 steals, seven rebounds and five assists as the Lady Hawks held on against Daviess County.

    Freshman Alexis Brewer added 21 points and three assists, while sophomore Allison Evans had five points and eight rebounds.
