  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

Coming off a lopsided loss to 17th District rival Elizabethtown in which they were held scoreless in the first quarter, the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs came out flat Tuesday against the visiting Fort Knox Lady Eagles.

Missed shots, bad passes and turnovers led John Hardin coach Bryan Todd to burn two timeouts in the first 3 minutes.

But the Lady Bulldogs finally got things going behind junior post Michelle Montgomery, who scored a school-record 40 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead John Hardin to a 93-38 home win.

  • GIRLS' PREP SWIMMING:...

    Lane eight.

It’s likely the hardest lane for swimmers. That’s where they battle turbulent, wave-filled water and have to avoid having it mess with their minds.

Seeded last in her heat in lane eight and stuck on the outside with all the water drafting to her, Erin Snider wasn’t supposed to contend for the 50-yard breaststroke title two weekends ago at the 10th annual Rock the Blocks meet in Louisville.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL: E...

The Elizabethtown Lady Panthers received the news they had been dreading since Thursday night. Senior guard Tara Gilpin will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a concussion in a victory over Hart County. It is Gilpin’s third concussion since her freshman season.

Gilpin’s loss creates a huge void for the Lady Panthers, who have won their last two games without their leader. Junior Alexis Powell has started in place of Gilpin.

  • PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Woodson...

Senior guard Brianna Woodson scored 23 points and junior forward Chanel Roberts had a double-double as the host North Hardin Lady Trojans breezed past 5th Region rival Bardstown on Monday, 71-33.

Roberts had 19 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while sophomore guard Kiera Jones added seven points, six assists and three steals.

North Hardin (15-5), which won its second straight, led 20-1 after the first quarter.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

The Elizabethtown Lady Panthers have a simple philosophy for getting wins: Start fast and finish strong.

The Lady Panthers did both Monday night as they built a 17-0 lead and then held off a late charge by the LaRue County Lady Hawks for a 57-48 victory at Charlie Rawlings Memorial Gymnasium.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

LaRue County coach Travis Wootton hopes the Lady Hawks have found the prime moment to finally end their decade-plus long losing streak to area rival Elizabethtown.

  • GIRLS' PREP GOLF: Gumm...

Lydia Gumm felt on top of the world Sunday afternoon – which coincidentally is where she finished in a prestigious girls’ international golf tournament.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

Cameron Wright saved Central Hardin from a collapse.

  • PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Fort...

Five Fort Knox players scored at least nine points Saturday as the Eagles pulled away from the visiting Metcalfe County Hornets, 76-66.

Sophomore forward Rashaud Orange had 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals, while freshman wing Anthony Little made all eight of his combined field goal and free throw attempts and finished with 15 points.

  • GIRLS' PREP GOLF: Gumm in...

Lydia Gumm is spending some time during the bitterness of winter in a coastal locale.

But instead of chilling on the beach with daytime temperatures in the mid 70s, the North Hardin High School junior golf standout is considering her time in Bluffton, S.C., as a business venture.

“I really don’t know how far we are from the beach. We’re really close to Hilton Head, but we haven’t been on the beach,” Gumm said after a putting practice Saturday evening.
