On the football field, John Hardin junior Wade Holtsclaw is level-headed. That’s the only way he can be on the gridiron.

But when he steps on the wrestling mat, Holtsclaw cranks up the intensity. He doesn’t let his emotions get the best of him, but he’s not as even-keeled as he is in football.

Two sports, two entirely opposite personalities.

  • PREP WRESTLING: Smith resigns as...

When Keith Smith took over as North Hardin High School’s wrestling coach in 2002, he wanted to return the Trojans to state prominence.

Smith began to rebuild the program, and North Hardin flourished under his direction.

The Trojans have placed in the top 10 three times under Smith – including a third-place finish in 2007 – and produced three individual state champions in the last 10 years.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

Scoring from the free-throw line continues to be a problem for the Elizabethtown Panthers. Scoring as a team does not.

Senior guard Jansen Flood and sophomore guard Nic McDonald both scored a team-high 15 points and three other Panthers scored seven or more points as 17th District-leading Elizabethtown held off the host North Hardin Trojans, 62-60 on Tuesday night at Ron Bevars Gymnasium.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

The John Hardin Bulldogs were paying attention during Monday’s practice when Coach Mark Wells was discussing what they needed to do in order to be successful against the Central Hardin Bruins.

    Need proof?

The Bulldogs led from wire to wire, jumping out to an 8-0 lead, and held on for a 58-51 victory over the Bruins in a 17th District game Tuesday night on Central Hardin’s Terry Buckles Court.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

The John Hardin Bulldogs were one of the best teams in the 5th Region last year, but they’ve started off a little slow this year.

But the Bulldogs are showing signs of turning it around. They’ve won their last three games heading into tonight’s showdown at Central Hardin. The game is set for 7:30. The slow start could be attributed to injuries and getting its players late from football, but the Bulldogs said it’s time to start winning.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

Elizabethtown coach James Haire is aware of the struggles North Hardin has had early this season, but he understands the Trojans are a different team than they were in December.

North Hardin is coming off an 85-36 thrashing of Fort Knox to snap an eight-game losing skid. Senior point guard Jermaine Ruttley played for the first time since the season opener, scoring 21 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
