Two weeks into the season, the LaRue County wrestling team is looking like a solid pick to win its first state championship.

The top-ranked Hawks are off to a good start.

They convincingly won last Saturday’s Raider Rumble at Ryle High School in Union and won the Oldham County Super Duals the previous week.

LaRue County rolled to the title of the 16-team Raider Rumble, amassing 273 points to easily beat Union County, which finished second with 211.5.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

The LaRue County Hawks haven’t had much luck against North Hardin, but they certainly caught the Trojans at the right time this season.
And they took advantage of it.
Junior Kelton Ford scored a game-high 27 points, including 17 in the fourth quar-ter, as the Hawks knocked off the Trojans, 68-62 on Tuesday night at Ron Bevars Gymnasium. It was LaRue County’s first win over North Hardin since the 1994-95 season.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

North Hardin senior Brianna Woodson and junior Chanel Roberts spent much of the first half watching from the bench with two fouls. But they spent the second half on the floor, terrorizing the LaRue County Lady Hawks.
Roberts and Woodson combined for 23 points in the second half as the Lady Trojans erased a four-point halftime deficit to post a 49-46 victory Tuesday night at Ron Bevars Gymnasium.
“We knew they could hold it together,” said Roberts, who finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. “But we knew we couldn’t foul anymore. We couldn’t hurt the team anymore.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

Michelle Montgomery has watched her John Hardin Lady Bulldogs come close to beating Elizabethtown, North Hardin and Central Hardin time after time after time.

Only this time, Montgomery wasn’t going to be denied a shot at her program making history.

A 6-foot-1 junior center, Montgomery had 23 rebounds, 20 points and seven blocks – all game highs Tuesday night – as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away from the Lady Bruins, 48-36.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

After watching his team waste away one chance Tuesday night to put away the host John Hardin Bulldogs, Central Hardin’s Andrew Kinney didn’t let the Bruins do it again in overtime.

The senior forward hit a pull-up jumper within the final 14 seconds and the Bulldogs missed three point-blank shots in the waning seconds as the Bruins held on for a 56-54 win over their 17th District rival.

  • GIRLS' PREP SWIMMING:...

Hannah Godfrey is ready to put her best foot forward. And this time, she hopes it stays intact.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

District play means something to Demond Thomas.

The Central Hardin Lady Bruins’ first-year basketball coach wants to get them back into the 17th District title hunt and help turn them into contenders – like they were back in the mid-2000s.
