  • GIRLS' PREP SOCCER: Central...

The Central Hardin Lady Bruins are in an unfamiliar position entering the season, but one they don’t mind.

After reaching the Girls’ 5th Region Soccer Tournament the previous six seasons, the Lady Bruins finally broke through last season, winning the region title and reaching the state tournament quarterfinals. It was Central Hardin’s first region championship since 2000.

  • GIRLS' PREP SOCCER: John...

The John Hardin Lady Bulldogs accomplished a rare feat last season and now they’re out to show they can do it again.

The Lady Bulldogs reached the Girls’ 5th Region Soccer Tournament for the first time since 2003 when they fell in the championship to Elizabethtown. Now, they want to make this an annual trip.

  • BOYS' PREP SOCCER: John...

John Hardin boys’ soccer coach Alex Shearer knew last season was going to be one of transition. The thought was take one step back to go two steps forward.

But last season went better than expected. The Bulldogs went 15-5-3 and took the Central Hardin Bruins, who went on to win the 17th District and 5th Region tournaments, to penalty kicks in the district semifinals.

  • BOYS' PREP SOCCER: Can...

After Central Hardin’s run to the state tournament’s final four last year, Bruins coach Mike Wiersema is hoping his team can bottle up some of that magic for this season.

The Bruins won a school-record 20 games and the program’s first region tournament title in three finals appearances last season. But Central Hardin graduated nearly half of its roster, leaving some big holes to fill this year.

  • GIRLS' PREP SOCCER:...

The Elizabethtown Lady Panthers have reeled off 11 consecutive winning seasons, went unbeaten last year against district competition in the regular season and spent part of 2010 ranked in the coaches’ top 20.

But they still look at the season as a failure because of a shocking 1-0 loss to John Hardin in the 10th District Tournament semifinals at Fort Knox that ended their year at 13-6-3.

  • GIRLS' PREP SOCCER: LaRue...

Give Becky Hawkins this – the LaRue County Lady Hawks’ coach is honest almost to a fault.

The Lady Hawks went 6-7-4 last season, getting outscored 54-26 and going winless (0-6-2) against 9th District teams.

“Last year our main goal was not to get mercy ruled. That’s how low of a skill level we had,” Hawkins said. “Now our goal is to play a good game and work hard as best we can. Hopefully that hard work will pay off.”
