    BOWLING GREEN — One era came to an end Wednesday in the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Girls’ State Golf Championship at Bowling Green Country Club, while another was just beginning.

    North Hardin senior Lydia Gumm, who has had a long and distinguished high school career, fired a 2-over-par 74 for a two-day total of 146 – four shots behind Calloway County’s Anna Hack. She finished second at the state tournament for a fourth time.

    Junior striker Travis Richardson notched a hat trick and had three assists and the host Elizabethtown Panthers celebrated senior night with an 8-0 win over 5th Region foe Taylor County on Tuesday.

    Junior midfielder Conner Kauffeld added a goal and an assist, while senior forward Devon Warman, senior striker Zohaib Qureshi, senior defender Nick Hartlage and freshman midfielder Nick Coffman also scored for the Panthers (6-13).

    Senior keeper Alec Fields had one save.

    If the North Hardin Trojans had 60 more seconds, first-year coach Brent Thompson feels his team would have pulled out a come-from-behind victory over Class 5-A, District 3 rival Jeffersontown last Friday night.

    Thompson had every reason to be confident. Trailing 41-21 early in the fourth quarter, junior quarterback Andrew Rugerio rallied the Trojans to within 41-36 after he threw a 25-yard scoring pass to senior wideout Dontre Woodruff.

    Chris De Leon had quite the successful homecoming Sunday evening.

    The 2009 Fort Knox High School graduate helped the Eastern Kentucky Colonels club team move to 2-0 on the season as it held off the homestanding Elizabethtown Community & Technical College Barons, 3-2 at the Mike Carroll Soccer Complex in Elizabethtown.

    While on post, De Leon played under current Barons coach Alex Molina.
