    The John Hardin Bulldogs realize how important the next two games are. With upcoming Class 5-A, District 3 games against Jeffersontown and North Hardin, their playoff seeding hangs in the balance.

    Win the next two games and John Hardin will win the district championship. The Bulldogs will also earn the top seed and be at home for the first three weeks of the playoffs.

    Lose one or both of these games and the Bulldogs could be the second or third seed. John Hardin hasn’t been seeded second since 2008.

    Jury finished tied for 23rd place after another solid round Wednesday in the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Championship at Bowling Green Country Club.

    Louisville Central’s Anthony “Ace” Wales didn’t run over anybody last week and the Elizabethtown Panthers didn’t get run over for once, mainly because both parties’ bye weeks happened to coincide.

    However, both parties’ stats will change at 7:30 Friday night at Elizabethtown’s Doug Smith Memorial Stadium as Wales leads his Yellowjackets (4-2) against the host Panthers (0-6) in both teams’ Class 3-A, District 3 opener.

    Host North Bullitt scored twice in the second half Wednesday to pull away for a 3-1 win over the North Hardin Lady Trojans.

    Sophomore Alyssa Exler scored off an assist from sophomore Kiera Jones.

    Junior keeper Ariana Martinez made 15 saves – including one on a penalty kick.

    The Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Championship began with such promise.

    Elizabethtown freshman Kyle Jury, who teed off in the first group of the day on the first hole, settled down after a shaky front nine to fire a 6-over-par 78 on Tuesday at Bowling Green Country Club.

    “This year I was not as nervous as I was last year,” said Jury, who was making in his second consecutive appearance at State. “I still had some butterflies in my stomach.”

    The 13th-ranked Owensboro Apollo E-Gals avenged a loss last week to Central Hardin with a 25-13, 25-22 road win Tuesday night against the No. 14 Lady Bruins.

    Central Hardin fell to 26-5, while Apollo moved to 20-11. Central Hardin beat Apollo, 25-22, 27-25 on Saturday in the Jefferson County Invitational Tournament at the Ohio Valley Volleyball Center in Louisville.

    No statistics were available.

    UP NEXT: Central Hardin hosts No. 15 Lexington Tates Creek at 11 a.m. and Owensboro Catholic at 1:30 p.m. in a tri-match Saturday.

    Senior Russ Mott notched a hat trick to lead the host John Hardin Bulldogs to a 6-0 win over Grayson County on Tuesday.

    Senior Chris Wilk chipped in with a goal and three assists, while junior Alex Higdon had a goal and two assists. Senior Colt Trimble also scored for the Bulldogs (12-7-1), who won for the third time in four games.

    Senior keeper Dylan Smith didn’t have to make a save as John Hardin outshot Grayson County, 34-0.
