  • PREP VOLLEYBALL: North Hardin...

    The North Hardin Christian Lady Falcons have played for the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association state volleyball championship each of the last nine years.

    They won three straight titles from 2007-09 and have finished runner-up a handful of times.

    With only four players back who saw significant playing time last season, that streak could be in jeopardy. North Hardin Christian, which finished runner-up to Hopkinsville Heritage Christian last season, lost nine players to transfers and one to graduation.

    The Central Hardin Lady Bruins are coming off their best year in school history which has fueled expectations for this season.

    The Lady Bruins went 35-6 last season and included 17th District and 5th Region championships and a trip to the state tournament. Despite graduating five players, they have a strong nucleus returning, including nine players who saw playing time last year.

    The John Hardin Lady Bulldogs are using the recipe of one part experienced veterans and one part up-and-coming youngsters this season. They are hoping it’s the right blend to get the program heading in the right direction.

    John Hardin, which went 14-16 last season and lost in the 17th District Tournament semifinals, graduated five players – Dawn Duda, Allison Anderson, Kerri Ecklund, Aunna Howard, Crystal Falefata – from last year’s squad.

  • BOYS' PREP GOLF: Meade...

    The Green Wave Invitational is losing quantity. But quality might be a different matter.

    Ten schools are slated to join host Meade County, which is fielding two teams, for Saturday’s boys’ prep golf tournament at Doe Valley Golf Club in Brandenburg. There are also four individuals, giving the field 64 players.

    That’s down from last year’s 13-school, 71-player event and the 2009 tournament which featured 109 players from 21 teams.

  • MEN'S GOLF: Garrett Hinton...

    Former Elizabethtown High School standout Garrett Hinton shot 74 on Thursday and finished with a three-round 219 to finish in a three-way tie for 15th in the 92nd annual PowerBilt Kentucky Open at Louisville’s Persimmon Ridge Golf Club.

    Hinton, who tied for fourth among amateurs, had the lowest score of the eight players who were among the 70 players who qualified for the final round.

  • GOLF: Eight area players make...

    The area will be well represented during today’s final round of the 92nd annual PowerBilt Kentucky Open at Louisville’s Persimmon Ridge Golf Club.

    Of the 12 area golfers in the 156-player field, eight played well enough Tuesday and Wednesday to qualify for today, which features the top 70 players and all ties.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Fire damages John...

    A fire Tuesday evening at the John Hardin High School football stadium in Radcliff left a golf cart totaled and the concession area severely burned.

    Both John Hardin athletic director Greg Cecil and Radcliff Police Department public information officer Bryce Shumate said the fire is believed to be electrical in nature and both preliminary ruled out arson.

    Cecil said the fire is believed to have started with the golf cart, which charges near the concession area.
