  • PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Mercy...

The North Hardin Lady Trojans were handed their most lopsided loss of the season Saturday in the Autism Awareness Classic at Marion County.

The Lady Trojans were held to one point in the second quarter as they fell to fourth-ranked Louisville Mercy, 63-38. North Hardin (13-5) lost its second game in as many nights, while the Jaguars (14-3) won their fourth straight.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL: John...

This is what John Hardin coach Mark Wells has come to expect from senior guard Jeremy Harness, but both were surprised it came this quickly.

Harness is a football standout and has been slow to transition to basketball, but he came to life Friday night as he scored a season-high 24 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 61-51 win over the North Hardin Trojans in a 17th District game Friday night at Ron Bevars Gymnasium.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

One team’s joy is another team’s misery.

Case in point, the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers jumped out to a 27-7 first quarter lead and never trailed as they handed the North Hardin Lady Trojans a 59-49 loss in a 17th District game Friday night at Ron Bevars Gymnasium.

“We always try to come out hard and get in a rhythm early,” said Elizabethtown eighth-grade forward Erin Boley, who scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds. “We want to get off to a good start and set the tone for the game.”

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

MUNFORDVILLE — LaRue County sophomore forward Ivy Brown had game highs in points (25) and rebounds (13) on Friday night as the Lady Hawks finally beat 18th District rival Hart County on the host Lady Raiders’ home floor, 53-43.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

A little pep talk before Friday night’s 17th District road game spurred Central Hardin’s Troy Squires out of a new year shooting slump.

Bruins’ assistant coach Chan Walsh planted the right idea in his head.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

First-year coach Central Hardin Lady Bruins coach Demond Thomas hadn’t been happy with his team’s defense to start the month.

Where was the hustle? Where was the energy? Where was the doggedness?

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL...

MUNFORDVILLE — LaRue County bounced back from one of its worst offensive performances of the season with one of its bests Friday at Hart County.

Junior guard Kelton Ford led three Hawks in double figures as LaRue County locked up the top seed for next month’s 18th District Tournament with an 88-65 pounding of the Raiders.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

The Elizabethtown Lady Panthers started strong and finished in the same manner.

The result was a 59-49 victory over the North Hardin Lady Trojans in a 17th District game Friday night at Ron Bevars Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers raced out to a 27-7 lead after the first quarter. North Hardin cut the lead to seven in the fourth quarter, but Elizabethtown closed the game with an 11-8 run to seal the win. The Lady Panthers made 9-of-10 free throws in the final 2 minutes.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL...

Senior guard Jeremy Harness and the John Hardin Bulldogs are starting to get in sync.

Harness scored a season-high 24 points to lead the Bulldogs to their fifth consecutive victory – a 61-51 win over the North Hardin Trojans in a 17th District game Friday night at Ron Bevars Gymnasium.

Harness, who has missed two games because of football, made 9-of-12 shots from the field, including going 5-for-7 from behind the 3-point line. He entered the game shooting 29.7 percent from the field and 26.1 percent from 3-point range.
