  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

    Freshman guard Tajah Haley scored 14 points and the John Hardin Lady Bulldogs held East Jessamine scoreless in the second quarter en route to a 70-30 win in the first game of the Pinkham Lincoln-Mercury Christmas Tournament at John Hardin.

    Haley also had seven steals, four assists and three rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs (4-3), who led 33-6 at the half.

    Freshman post Zacchea Small chipped in with 12 points, while sophomore post Michelle Montgomery added 10 points and nine rebounds.

    The only place to find high school hoops in the area prior to Christmas is in Radcliff at John Hardin.

    The Lady Bulldogs are hosting the four-team, six-game Pinkham Lincoln-Mercury Christmas Tournament the next three days.

    Each team plays three times in the round robin format.

    John Hardin (3-3) plays East Jessamine (1-4) in the opener at 6 tonight. The nightcap at 8 features Pikeville (2-3) against Henry County (2-2).

    On Tuesday night, Pikeville and East Jessamine face off at 6 and John Hardin plays Henry County at 8.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

    Junior guard Kaylyn Cecil scored 16 points and senior post Adelaide Luckett had a double-double as the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers cruised past Hebron Conner, 66-38 on Saturday in the Republic Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic.

    Cecil hit four 3-pointers and had four rebounds, four steals and one block, while Luckett had 14 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and one block.

    Junior guard Tara Gilpin chipped in with eight points, three rebounds and two steals. Senior forward Kymbur Berrow and sophomore forward Deanna Downs each scored six points.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL...

    Senior guard Matt Nichols was two rebounds shy of a triple-double Saturday afternoon as the Central Hardin Bruins knocked of Maryville (Tenn.) Heritage, 68-53 in the first round of the Smoky Mountain Classic in Gatlinburg, Tenn.

    Nichols had 12 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals for the Bruins (4-3), while sophomore forward Alex Crowder had 13 points and five rebounds.

  • PREP BASKETBALL: John Hardin...

    The John Hardin Bulldogs are still perfect this season and they have the play of their bench to thank for it.

    The Bulldogs led most of the first half by double digits before the North Hardin Trojans pulled even in the fourth quarter, but John Hardin made got key contributions from Patrick Crowe, Jeff Richard and Landon Savoy down the stretch to help the Bulldogs hold on for an 87-78 victory in a key early season 17th District game at the Dawg Pound.

  • PREP BASKETBALL: Lady Panthers...

    Entering Friday, the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers felt they had been struggling on offense. Once it got in a groove against the Central Hardin Lady Bruins, Elizabethtown stayed in one for once.

    After turning the ball over on its first possession, Elizabethtown converted on its next 10 trips down the court as it ran away from its 17th District rival, 91-34 at Charlie Rawlings Memorial Gymnasium.

    The North Hardin at John Hardin boys’ basketball game, originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 17, has been rescheduled for tonight.

    The junior varsity game is set for 4 p.m. and the varsity will immediately follow.
