    BARDSTOWN — Mary Beth Russell and the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers weren’t comfortable despite holding a seven-point advantage in the third set Monday night against the Bethlehem Banshees.

    Having lost to the Banshees in two sets earlier this season, the Lady Panthers were well aware of what Bethlehem was capable of. They knew no lead was safe.

    After she scored the game’s only goal to beat No. 3 Central Hardin in last week’s 10th District Soccer Tournament final at John Hardin, Elizabethtown senior midfielder Taylor Perkins said the Lady Panthers’ motivation was getting to stay at home for this week’s 5th Region Tournament.

  • BOYS' 5TH REGION SOCCER...

    BARDSTOWN — The Meade County Green Wave hung with Bethlehem as long as they could, but Ben Rossoll and the host Eagles had just too much for Meade County down the stretch.

    A junior striker, Rossoll had two assists and three teammates had one goal each as the ninth-ranked Eagles pulled away from Meade County, 3-1 on Monday night in the Boys’ 5th Region Soccer Tournament’s opening semifinal at Lally Field.

    BARDSTOWN — With Nelson County looking for a way to finally pull ahead of the Central Hardin Bruins on Monday night, the Cardinals looked for Chris Muncy’s head.

    The junior attacker headed in the game-winning goal off a long throw-in from junior midfielder Colby Veech with 6:05 left to help the Cardinals rally past the defending champions, 2-1 in the Boys’ 5th Region Soccer Tournament’s late semifinal at Lally Field.

    Gumm was named Miss Golf in Kentucky for the fourth time in the last six years. At the postseason banquet, Gumm has to give a speech, something she is more comfortable doing now.
