  • STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT:...

LEXINGTON – The Central Hardin Bruins ended another season at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington. It was just not the way they wanted.

After winning the Kentucky National Insurance/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament last season, the Bruins came up short in their quest for back-to-back championships, falling to South Warren, 3-1 in the first round Monday.

Despite the disappointing loss, Central Hardin’s season has to still be considered a success and another positive building block for the future.

After being stopped in the 3rd Region Baseball Tournament semifinals the two previous years, the Green Wave not only made the title game this season, but won it to earn their first trip to the Kentucky National Insurance/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament.

“It’s just a great accomplishment,” Meade County senior Brady Smith said. “We set out goals and it’s awesome to reach a goal, especially a big goal like that.”

  • STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT...

LEXINGTON – The light rain falling at Whitaker Bank Ballpark wasn’t the only reign to fall Monday afternoon.

Central Hardin’s championship reign officially came to an end as the Bruins fell to the surging South Warren Spartans, 3-1 in the first round of the Kentucky National Insurance/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament.

The Bruins know this feeling and they certainly don’t like it. Two years ago, they lost in the first round to Greenup County only to come back last season and win the state championship.

LEXINGTON – The Central Hardin Bruins couldn’t have picked a worse time to have one of their worst games.

Central Hardin’s quest for back-to-back state championships came to a screeching halt Monday afternoon as the Bruins weren’t as sharp as they’ve been this postseason and it cost them dearly.

  • STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT:...

Assembling a baseball team is the same as putting a jigsaw puzzle together. A coach has to work to place the pieces in their right spots. One misplaced piece could be the difference in having a good season and a great season.

Last season, Central Hardin had all the right pieces. The Bruins had a potent lineup capable of scoring runs – and lots of them. They had a dominant pitching staff led by Austin Walters and Dylan Shoffner. They had a rock-solid defense. And most importantly, they had determination to be the best.
