  • PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lady Bruins...

After a quick first-set victory, the Central Hardin Lady Bruins had a second-set letdown for the second consecutive match.

Their lack of focus proved first-year coach Bill Rineker’s point.

  • PREP GOLF ROUNDUP: Thursday...

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Knox turns focus...

After knocking off longtime rival Elizabethtown in the 2011 season opener, the Fort Knox Eagles celebrated.

And rightfully so. Teams should celebrate a win over a rival. But second-year coach Shawn Thompson thought the Eagles should have been flagged for excessive celebration.

  • PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: Meade downs...

Senior defender Jacob Waldecker scored with 53 seconds left Thursday night, giving the Meade County Green Wave an insurance goal in a 3-1 win over former district foe Elizabethtown.

Senior midfielder Chase Long scored on a penalty kick in the first half and senior midfielder Zach Ledford also scored off an assist from Waldecker as Meade County extended its unbeaten streak to seven games.

Senior keeper Alex Fackler made four saves for the Green Wave (5-0-2), who finished with 11 shots on frame.

In a rematch from last season’s 5th Region Tournament quarterfinals, Bardstown Bethlehem once again held the advantage over the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers.

Visiting Bethlehem rallied after losing the first two sets to hand Elizabethtown its second loss in three matches with a five-set victory Thursday, 22-25, 16-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-13.

Senior Kate Hula led Elizabethtown (10-3) with eight kills, seven aces and two blocks, while senior Brittany Stokan chipped in with eight kills, four blocks and two aces.

  • BOYS' PREP SOCCER: Late...

Taylor Yates made a mistake Thursday night, but veteran North Hardin Trojans Jim Stone coach will surely let it slide.

A junior midfielder, Yates was supposed to finish off a diving header during his back-post run on senior left outside defender Chaffin Blair’s high lofted ball from the left wing.

The finish was nice. The header? Nope.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: North Hardin...

The North Hardin Trojans figure after their season-opening 56-33 loss to Greenwood in the Joe Jaggers Bowl they have nowhere to go but up.

It’s not the way the Trojans planned to begin the season after a 6-6 season which saw them reach the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2004. But the main goal is learning from what went wrong and correcting it.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Green Wave look...

There’s no doubt Meade County coach Larry Mofield respects the dominance and tradition carried on by the John Hardin football program.

Junior forward Anne Hare and senior midfielder Courtney Boyd each had a hat trick as the host John Hardin Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 7-0 win over 5th Region rival LaRue County on Wednesday.

Junior Lexi Mink also scored for John Hardin (5-3-1), which won its second straight.

Senior keeper and junior reserve Lexi Legaspi combined for one save.

The Lady Hawks (3-3-1) lost for the second time in four games. Senior keeper Kasey Wells made 13 saves.
