As they try to rally for a solid finish to the regular season, Ashley Nikolao and the visiting Meade County Lady Waves needed to rally Thursday for a big win over the 14th-ranked Central Hardin Lady Bruins.

Nikolao homered twice and reached base all four times as the sophomore shortstop helped the Lady Waves come back from a pair of one-run deficits to down the Lady Bruins, 8-3.

After hanging around the .500 mark for most of the season, the formerly ranked Lady Waves (13-10) have won two straight and 5-of-6.

A knockout punch can end all contests decisively. Just ask the John Hardin Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs kept hanging around Thursday night, even taking a two-run lead in the top of the third. They appeared to have the Central Hardin Bruins on the ropes again in the sixth, but failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity.

The Bruins didn’t make the same mistake.

Central Hardin landed a haymaker in the bottom half of the sixth, exploding for nine runs to roll to a 16-7 victory over the visiting Bulldogs to run its 17th District winning streak to 25.

  • PREP SOFTBALL: Boley bombs E...

With one swing of her bat Thursday evening, Elizabethtown eighth-grader Erin Boley helped the visiting Lady Panthers end a long losing streak to 17th District rival North Hardin.

Leading off the fifth, Boley crushed a high-and-tight fastball from North Hardin freshman Bailey Blair over the left field fence to spark Elizabethtown to a 5-2 win.

“I love the inside and chest-high pitch. That’s my favorite pitch,” Boley said. “As soon as it came off the bat, I knew it was gone because I hit it really hard. It was awesome.”
