Lexy Hazle has had plenty of prolific games in her four years with the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers, but Wednesday night might have been the biggest breakthrough of all for the All-State senior striker.

Hazle scored just one time in her team’s first seven games before exploding for four goals, needing all of 29 minutes for a first-half hat trick, to lead the 10th-ranked Lady Panthers past visiting 17th District rival John Hardin, 5-0.

After eight straight games under Murphy’s Law – what can go wrong will go wrong – Travis Richardson and the slumping Elizabethtown Panthers finally had something go right Tuesday.

Richardson had one assist and two goals, including the game winner in the final 4 minutes, as the All-State junior striker helped the visiting Panthers finally hold off the LaRue County Hawks, 4-3 in the area rivals’ inaugural meeting.

The John Hardin Bulldogs aren’t getting too caught up in records this week. The Boyle County Rebels are off to a 1-2 start, but the Bulldogs realize how good the Rebels are.

Boyle County’s loaded schedule can be attributed to the slow start. The Rebels lost to Fort Thomas Highlands and Danville. Highlands is ranked No. 1 in the latest Associated Press Class 4-A poll, while Danville is fourth in 2-A.

With two players injured, Bart Catlett gave senior Shayla Averitt her chance in the middle.

She didn’t make the first-year Elizabethtown coach regret it.

Averitt finished with a co-team high five blocks and recorded four kills and one dig as host Elizabethtown defeated Meade County, 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 on Tuesday night.

Visiting Thomas Nelson rolled to an 11-1 mercy-rule win over the LaRue County Lady Hawks on Monday. The game was called 20 minutes early.

Nothing energizes Brittany Stokan more than a powerful block.

Yes, Elizabethtown’s 6-foot senior middle hitter can throttle opponents with a booming kill.

But when Stokan stuffs an opposing front-row player, a whole new energy level kicks in.
