  • PREP BOWLING: Midseason Report (...

Pun somewhat intended, but the Central Hardin boys’ and John Hardin girls’ bowling teams are one quite a roll.

The Bruins (5-1) are 4-0 against their counterparts from John Hardin and North Hardin, while the Lady Bulldogs (7-1) haven’t lost since beating Central Hardin and falling to North Hardin in a tri-match Nov. 30 in all three schools’ inaugural matches.

As the season nears the midway point, here’s a look at the six (three boys, three girls) area teams.

  • GIRLS' PREP BOWLING: North...

Admittedly, Ally Eastman and Jillian Shufelt knew little of each other before both freshmen joined North Hardin’s inaugural girls’ bowling team.

It hasn’t taken long for one to learn this about the other: She’s not bad.

While the three area high schools with boys’ bowling programs – Central Hardin, John Hardin and North Hardin – are led by seniors and juniors, the girls’ side tends to be dominated by a younger crowd.

Case in point with the 14-year-old Eastman and Shufelt, 15.

  • PREP BASKETBALL: District lead...

The race for the top seed in the Boys’ 17th District Basketball Tournament has come down to Elizabethtown and John Hardin.

The Panthers and Bulldogs meet tonight at 7:30 at Charlie Rawlings Memorial Gymnasium in a critical game. If Elizabethtown wins, it will only need one more victory to earn the the district tournament’s top seed. A John Hardin victory means the Bulldogs are still in contention for the No. 1 seed.

  • PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lady...

Junior post Michelle Montgomery and sophomore post Zacchea Small each had a double-double to lead the host John Hardin Lady Bulldogs to a 50-34 win over North Bullitt on Monday.

Montgomery had 23 points and 16 rebounds, while Small had 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists as John Hardin (13-4) won its fifth straight.

Junior wing Desireah Mills added seven points and three assists.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL...

This was supposed to be the season the Elizabethtown girls’ basketball team wouldn’t be the same dominant force the Lady Panthers had been in previous years. The dreaded word “rebuilding” was even thrown around.

  • PREP SWIMMING: E'town'...

Thomas Deaton wasn’t even scheduled to be on Team Kentucky’s top 400-yard freestyle relay.

    Entering last Saturday’s Mid-States 14-and-Under All-Star Championship, he was the team’s fifth-fastest freestyle swimmer.

Then came the Elizabethtown High School freshman’s free-wheeling night.

  • BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

MUNFORDVILLE — A bit peeved after LaRue County lost at home Tuesday to a team it had blitzed less than two weeks earlier, junior guard Kelton Ford had some frustrations to take out on the host Hart County Raiders on Friday night.

Ford led three Hawks in double figures as LaRue County locked up the top seed for next month’s 18th District Tournament by routing the Raiders, 88-65.

  • GIRLS' PREP BASKETBALL:...

MUNFORDVILLE — Depending on the vantage point, in order for Ivy Brown and the LaRue County Lady Hawks to take revenge on the Hart County Lady Raiders, it took as little as two months or as long as almost 17 years.

Brown, a standout sophomore forward, poured in a game-high 25 points and grabbed a night-best 13 rebounds Friday as the surging Lady Hawks finally beat their 18th District rival on its home floor, 53-43.
