  • BOYS' PREP HOOPS: District...

Five weeks into the 2014-15 basketball season, there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the boys’ 17th District race.

North Hardin sits atop the district standings at 2-0, owning a half-game lead over Elizabethtown, which won its only district game. Central Hardin is 1-1 followed by John Hardin at 1-2 and Fort Knox at 0-2.

  • GIRLS' PREP HOOPS: Lady...

Elizabethtown made its debut Monday night as the state’s No. 1 team and the Lady Panthers sure looked the part on the road for a 17th District game with the Central Hardin Lady Bruins.

  • GIRLS' PREP HOOPS: North...

Zakayshia Pass was having a rough night, missing her first six shots against 17th District rival John Hardin.

That didn’t stop the North Hardin senior guard from trying to give her team the win.

  • GIRLS' PREP HOOPS: Lady...

Last season, the North Hardin Lady Trojans and John Hardin Lady Bulldogs staged the most memorable 17th District game of the year. North Hardin’s double-overtime triumph in the district tournament semifinals kept John Hardin from advancing to its first 5th Region Tournament.

The teams resume that rivalry tonight at Ron Bevars Gymnasium.

  • BOYS' PREP HOOPS: Bulldogs...

Little things are becoming big problems for the John Hardin Bulldogs.

They struggled from the free throw line and on the boards Saturday night in a 63-46 loss to Louisville Male in the Bluegrass Cellular New Year’s Classic at Central Hardin, a game which finished after News-Enterprise deadlines.

  • BOYS' PREP HOOPS:...

The Elizabethtown Panthers were in danger of being blown off the court early in the second half Saturday evening against Lexington Bryan Station.

Then the Panthers’ ensuing comeback was in danger of being wasted before Austin Freyberger lifted them not once, but twice.

  • BOYS' PREP HOOPS UPDATE:...

The John Hardin Bulldogs fought off an early nine-point deficit to take a lead in the third quarter Saturday night, but they were unable to sustain it against the Louisville Male Bulldogs.

  • PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: North Hardin...

Junior guard Tamiah Stanford and senior guard Zakayshia Pass combined for 46 points, leading the North Hardin Lady Trojans to a 68-55 win over Hebron Conner on Saturday in the Staxx BBQ Shootout at Franklin County.

Stanford led North Hardin (10-5) with 25 points, four assists, while Pass had 21 points, six rebounds and four steals.

  • PREP FOOTBALL: Cobb, Wilson...

Two area football players were named second-team All-State by The Associated Press.

John Hardin senior lineman Ethan Cobb was named to the second-team offense, while Meade County senior safety John Wilson was on the second-team defense.

  • BOYS' PREP HOOPS: Rothrock...

Central Hardin sophomore Mason Rothrock wasn’t feeling well when he woke up Saturday morning, missing the team’s shootaround and then he sat out the first half against South Oldham.

The Dragons would have preferred if Rothrock would have remained on the bench in the second half.
