The 11-team West Kentucky Cal Ripken 6-and-under State Tournament opens today at the University Drive Ballpark.

The Elizabethtown Area Baseball Commission All-Stars are in a pool along with Fern Creek and Spencer County. E’town won the district tournament last week over LaRue County and Meade County. Those two teams also are in the field.

Elizabethtown plays Spencer County at 5:45 p.m. today and Fern Creek at 5:45 p.m. Friday.

LaRue County is joined by Jeffersontown, Blue Lick and Okolona in pool play. LaRue County faces Blue Lick at 7:30 p.m. today and Okolona at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Meade County will play Germantown at 5:45 p.m. today and Mt. Washington at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Owensboro Western also is in the pool.

The single-elimination tournament begins Saturday morning.

• The EABC 8s captured the district championship after a 6-0 victory over Meade County Green. They reached the title game with wins over Radcliff (17-0), Meade County Green (6-4) and LaRue County (18-3).
