A Florida man, reportedly armed with a handgun, was arrested Thursday morning and charged in an armed robbery a few hours earlier at Speedway on North Mulberry Street.
Nathaniel Lucas, 35, of Lake City, Florida, reportedly left the store with $201 in cash and a carton of cigarettes, according to Elizabethtown police.
He is charged with first-degree robbery, a Class B felony punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison, if convicted; and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with physical evidence, Class D felonies punishable by one to five years in prison, if convicted.
According to an arrest citation, Lucas entered the store at 4:13 a.m. carrying a duffel bag and armed with a handgun. He pointed the gun at a cashier and demanded money and the cigarettes.
He left the store and was found by police at a nearby FiveStar convenience store. He was detained for questioning, according to the citation, and when he was in a police vehicle, he removed a watch from his left wrist that later was found between two seat cushions.
According to the citation, the watch “was crucial to identifying the suspect.”
Lucas has multiple felony convictions in Florida for violent crimes, the citation stated.
